I know exactly how you feel. I don't even have a surgery date yet but I'm self pay so I know it will be relatively quick. I can't stop eating!!!! I need to quit, but easier said than done, I suppose.

I am so happy I am not alone. I was waiting for all the negative comments about how I am not ready for the surgery and blah blah blah

I know my surgery is not till September or October. I normally do not go overboard with food like this. But since I know I am having the surgery and before I start my pre-op diet. I am eating everything in sight' date=' kinda like getting it all in before the last day. Did anyone else do this?[/quote']

I went on a cruise a week before I started the preop diet :)

I have been eating the foods I don't think I can have after the sleeve. But, I have been measuring them and freezing the rest, in case I might miss them again before the pre-diet for the surgery.

I pretty much did the 'food funerals' and then went on a diet 1 week prior to my pre op app wit hmy NUT and DR.....and whoa! they were not happy! I had only lost 3 pds and I had not been exercising either....Dr was very upset with me and let me know about it too.......i was almost in tears i thought she was going to cancel my Aug 6th surgery date and reschedule....she ask me why i hadnt been dieting and excersing before now, that i should have lost more weight than 3 pds....so please be cautious about the overeating, some Dr's will not do surgery until you lose a certain amoun

t of weight to shrink the liver. I start my 800 calorie pre op diet this Sunday and trust me i will NOT cheat, she put the fear of God in me about losing weight pre op.....

I don't think the overeating is uncommon. I went up 6 lbs after my consultation and scared myself. My surgeon said I didn't have to lose weight, but she would not operate if I gained weight. So I promptly started watching what I ate and cut out fast food. Boom those 6.lbs gone. Then I lost another 6 in the remaining 3 months before my preadmission testing. Everyone said- Wow you lost weight. I never knew 6 lousey pounds could be so important, because my BMS went from almost 50 to 48- I didn't need an arterial blood gas today. However, everyone's journey is personal and if it was easy to maintain weight loss and If we didn't all love food we would not be having surgery to make our lives better.

Good luck with your food funeral and you will gain control soon. You can only do your best. Just follow your surgeons and nutrtionist's advice. Only they can tell you how much you need to loose to get to surgery. But I do recognize your feelings. My big upset today- I realized my 10 days of Clear liquids starts one day before my birthday on Monday. I just informed my husband he is taking me for dinner and a glass of wine Friday night.

Lol I did the same thing when I did my consult I weighted 340 I had gained 11lbs from that day. Till 2 weeks ago when My surgeons office sent out an email saying they were getting patients that hadn't followed there pre op diet and the were having to postpone there surgery. I sent an email explaining I had gained the 11lbs since my consult. They basically responded saying I better lose it before my preop starts and follow the pre op to the T. They recommend doing 1 protien shake to replace one meal a day. But I'm doing 2 I've lost 10lbs in the last week and a half. I'm going to try to do this until my preop. My surgury is sept 12th I'd like to be around 310lbs on the surgury day. But I feel everyone's pain it was like eat everything you wont be able to for a while.

I almost feel like my eating has been out of control. I find myself eating and doing things that are just crazy. Could it be that my food addiction is evolving since my mind knows that I'm about to chop off 80% of my stomach?

Oh, thank you to everyone for being so understanding and for the words of warning about what might happen with our Dr.'s if we gain! I was worried like the 1 person who posted that said they were afraid everyone would preach about how bad our behavior is. It is sooo nice to have support from people who know the struggle!

Eat all you want before the surgery. It doesn't really matter. Your mind will totally change about food after the surgery, trust me. I don't know how it does it, but it breaks your addiction to food. For most people, anyway. I wouldn't starve myself until I had to for the pre-op diet if I was you.

God I pray your right because I've been having a hard time controlling my food intake ever since they told me that I was approved for surgery.

I do think this is common. I think it is partly about trying to have foods you are worried you will never have again and partly about turning to food (again) as a coping mechanism to deal with the very reasonable fears and concerns about the surgery. Before I started my pre-op diet, I found myself eating things even I would have found ridiculous beforehand -- like a dinner of hot dogs and french fries. Or corn dogs.

The good thing is the pre-op diet forced me back into line and since surgery, the restrictive diet (at the start) has obviously made all of that stuff impossible. But I also don't crave it any more. I think tastes do change, and the forced weeks of healthier eating also gives you such a break from the old unhealthy stuff that you get out of the habit of eating it.

Well said and spot on.

The surgery on it's own is not going to take the weight off. It's just a piece of the puzzle. My 6 month medically supervised diet means I'm looking at November for the surgery. By the time I get there I don't want to have to think about eating right. It's going to be second nature.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
