Had Surgery With Dr. Kelly On July 11Th

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved with Dr. Kelly in Mexico on July 11th. Everything went well and I am very pleased with my experience. Dr. Kelly was wonderful, super friendly, answered any and all questions. And then there's Omar... I cannot say enough good things about him. He is phenomenal! He was there whenever I needed him and even when I didn't. Everything was arranged - from picking me up in the US, bringing me to the hospital, to the hotel, to dinner (broth only but the best broth ever!), shopping... Omar took care of it. I wonder if he ever sleeps?

Anyway, I'm a little sore today after the train ride from San Diego to Los Angeles but overall I feel great. I am so happy with my decision to go to Mexico and have surgery with Dr. Kelly.

Thank you. I'm going to Dr. Kelly on 8/3. I'm getting nervous. I have almost 8 hours of flying with layover each way. That makes me really nervous. But not to sure I would have wanted a train ride (if i had the option). Please keep updated.

Is there anything you wish you had taken with you and how much were you able to get out post-op?

Good luck

Hi StillLooking -

I probably took more than I needed...

Be sure you use a rolling suitcase(s)! Also, get GasX strips. I couldn't find these at Target but found at the grocery store and I'm still using them.

I brought a robe for the hospital but ended up wearing two gowns which seemed easier. Just put the second one on backwards like a robe. Some people wear their own gown in the hospital, up to you. As far as anything I wish I'd taken, maybe more hair products, between the humidity by the beach and laying in the hospital bed, my hair was a mess! You may not have the same issue...

After the swallow test we were out alot. Out to dinner, shopping and sitting out by the pool so add sunscreen to your list. You will be amazed at how good you feel, especially once you get back into your own clothes. Be sure everything is loose fitting or has low waistbands. My incisions are just above so no real trouble with that.

Congrats on your decision to get the surgery! You'll be so happy once it's done!

Hey cuz, glad everything went great! It's a wonderful experience! I checked on you with Omar a few times (once at 6am PST, oops!) and he replied in less than 5 minutes every time. I don't think he does sleep, lol.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
