Aussie Roll Call

Recommended Posts

hi ya all,

Well some of you I know like Lisa I met yesterday and Kelly I met last year at the banding convention in ACT.

I am Colleen 26 from Melbourne (Boronia) but not for too much longer as I think everything is going in storage and I am taking my new body on a big adventure.

I have lost 40kg in a year and 5 months, I have not lost much since April (even after going to a fat farm in Thialand a few months ago) but my body shape has changed HEAPS!!!!! I have just over 21kg to go till I am "normal weight" infact only a few kgs to go till i am only overweight, how funny is it that I crave to be overweight, but it beats morbidly obease as I was on banding day at 141.5.

At the moment I work in the disability industry while saving for this big adventure and when i do finally get overseas I am happy to work anywhere even at work at Macdonalds.

I am sure there will be more meets in Melbourne before I go ( i know for a fact there will be one at the Hub in Karingal in a month or so) I will make sure I post the details here cause I just love meets it is like making friends for nothing. You are all atomaticly friends cause you have this little "secret".

Anyways I better head off and catch up on what I missed out on with this site, I hope you see you all soon

**waves to mary9, jojo41, simmah_oz and jane73** Hi there gang! Nice to meet you!

Hi aus_colleen,

It was nice to meet you on Saturday, and I'd love to meet up with you for a proper chat again before you go overseas. Your photos are amazing, but you look thinner in real life that the "after" shot. You must feel fantastic to have broken the 100kg barrier now.

Let us know when the Karingal gathering is on - it's not too far away from me. What is the banding convention? I had no idea this thing was so big it had it's own conferences...

Cheers!

Hey guys,

I am back from the honeymoon, Paul ended up taking me to Tasmania so my new swimmys didnt come out of the suitcase. We had a really good time and stayed at a few different places. My fave was Hobart right in the middle of the city and the most awesome markets I have ever been too. We stayed at Diamond Beach and Port Arthur too.

I am very impressed DH planned all that on his lonesome without help from me and now I know he can do it I have let him know I will be expecting more haha.

Good to see you again Colleen, everytime I see your pics I do a backflip, you are like half the person I met last year.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes and I will post pics as soon as I get some back.

Hi Jenny

I've been banded 15mths & lost about 20kgs, had to have 2 ports replaced though so been a bit slow process.

I was banded by Geoff Draper. I live near Frankston.

I've been flat out of late & find that the meetups nearer the city are just too hard for me to get to, I completely forgot about the one last weekend, Andy sms'd me late in arvo to ask if i I'd gone to it.

Hi, Just joined your group. I'm in desperation and have just asked for a referral from my doctor to have the Lband out. Sick of keeping it a secret, sick of the family watching my eating habits and worrying what is wrong, sick of putting my finger down my throat to relieve the blocked food, I guess sick of just not being normal. I have never had anyone to talk to, and just reading some of your chat there does not seem anyone out there has my issues. My surgeon was Paul Dumbrell Melb. Anyone else had him?

Hi Ollies Mum,

Sorry to hear you are having problems. Who were you banded by? When were you banded? Perhaps there is someone else with the same surgeon or perhaps if you have no success you might find another one.

It's no secret I have had a hard time with my band. I have lost NO weight, and I am started to eat poor foods as I cant keep the good stuff down often. I am sick of doing all this work and not seeing any weight come off. I accept this is a life changing decision and I have another appointment with my surgeon tomorrow (thurs).

I truely understand it's hard. Have you managed to lose any weight? It must be harder without anyone to talk to as you dont know what is normal and what isnt. There are people on this site with far more experience than I, but I really understand your frustration. Perhaps sharing more of your story might help us to understand what is happens and make suggestions. If you've decided to have the band out, thats your choice and I am not trying to change that. But if you are looking for help and answers or suggestions perhaps there are people here who can help.

Personally, when I cant keep things down my surgeon takes some of the fill out. Perhaps you are too tight. How many mls do you have in? What size is your band?

Hope you find what you are looking for

Regards

Lisa

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
