Any Ladies At 5'5"? What's Your Story?

Recommended Posts

I am also 5 5 I consider myself lg frame. Plus to that is people always shocked that I was so close to 200. I started this journey at 194 to 197. Day of surgery ( last week). Was 191. Today 184. Doc has a goal for me of 14o to 150. Personally anything will be great. I too am band to sleeve so wanted this change. Starting wt with band was 230. Oh also fello Texas. Live 6 hours south of Houston and visiting my siblings there often :). Oh I am not aiming for 120 or 130. Ok don't laugh cuz what if to thin?? That was one thing that was holding me back initially. Lol. But I said who am I kidding. Let's go for it lol

Welcome to the losers bench. Did you do your revision in one surgery? Why did you decide to do the revision? Where did you have your sleeve? Wouldn't that be sonething, getting too skinny?

Im 5'3 and although originally born and bred in Texas til I was 28 I now live in Australia' date=' so.. Technically my opinion is irrelevant, but I was going to say... Weights! Do it! U will be so happy u did! In Australia we have Les Mills pump classes and I LOVE them! Can't wait to get back to it!!

The research is showing that although cardio is great for initial calorie burn, the sustained release you get from strength training is equally if not more important for toning and long term health.[/quote']

Thanks, that's so encouraging. Once a Texan always a Texan no matter where you end up.

For you ladies thst have had sugery' date=' how much weight should I lose monthly during my 3 month supervised diets? Im currently 265 (i think), and of course I'm 5.5[/quote']

I lost 12 lbs in 2 weeks, but I would imagine a lot of it was Water weight. I would guess 20-30lbs on a 3 month diet if you follow it to a tee.

I don't understand. Did you go to a WLS and he put you on a diet and encouraged you to check out other surgeons or your Primary Care Dr put you on a diet? Either way it sounds like someone is preparing you for a WLS. Are you self pay or is your insurance covering it?

Yes all in one surgery done here in my town. By Dr Allyen its small compared to your area and we have 4 bariatric surgeons. Lol. And why I revised. Well I have had band for four years did loose 35 pounds first six months. Then nothing. I mean nothing. Plus was tires of getting stuff on all the healthiy foods was throwing up frequently and I got a slip scare and was in pain for two weeks. That's when surgeon and I discusses it and this became an option. My a miricle of god insurance approved at bmi of 33. I was very scared of another surgery and I prayed of it is approved it god giving me his approval :).

Yes serious I am Adfraid of getting to skinny lol

My pcp started my supervised diet yesterday, and she encouraged me to see another surgeon for WLS. She had questions for me that I couldnt answer (i.e. how do u like ur surgeon?). His practice had their seminar online, so I didn't have any face to face interaction with him. My insurance covers 100%

I'm getting close to a 12. I'd say in about 7 lbs I'll be there. I'll be 180 in 7 more pounds. I know every body type is different, but maybe this might help as a starting goal.

I am 5'5", well, I like to say I am. I am really just under that.

I am 155 right now and comfortably in a size 12 and every now and then a 10 fits.

I think I have a small frame, I think. I originally said I wanted to be 140, but now, I would like to be 130.

That's awesome!! Its sounds like the common thread here isn't what the scale says, but body shape when it comes to the size you wear. Instead of the scale being my biggest factor, I'm thinking for me I will focus my clothes size, cause I want to be a size on skinny jeans. (I can cheat with dresses and buy a size or 2 smaller most of the time now)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
