Using funds in an FSA account to pay for sleeve in Mexico...does anyone know if this is legal and doable using funds b4 March 15 from this year, and $5,000 dollars in next years for surgery in January 2013, or February? Kind of excited about this possibility, but not putting the cart ahead of the horse just yet...lol

I did exactly that. I had my surgery in February, and I paid for it using my FSA credit card. It is not illegal, I just had to supply a letter of medical necessity and an itemized bill to validate the charge on the card.

I was self-pay and used my American Express card to pay for my surgery. Membership Rewards points galore!!

I guess I shouldn't have said credit card, because its really more like a debit card that has FSA funds on it.

Thank you shoelover, you made my day with your response!

It is very similar to a debit card from banks, or credit unions, being that every pay period you put in a certain amount of money up to the amount allowed by govt. per year, which adjusts your gross income for taxes. But the money you put in this account can only go towards medical bills insurance doesn't cover, prescriptions, co pays etc... and I believe it can't be used towards cosmetic surgeries. Anyhow you receive a credit/debit card to use in place of paying for services rendered out of pocket then being reimbursed later, you swipe the card and its paid from your FSA!

I don't know if you can use this years card to for surgery next year. That is something you better research.

I'm not sure because we have till mid March to use up the funds from the previous year...but yes I should find out for sure if that would apply to having surgery too. Thanks!

I know this is coming in late....but just in case :) Check with your HR about using 2012 funds in 2013. Several companies that I know of, you CAN roll the funds over, however, they're not available on your card....those you have to he reimbursed for.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
