10 days out - I have one incision that just won't heal. It's the biggest/main one, and right over my belly button to the left an inch or so. I was told about 4 days ago by my surgeon's staff over the phone that it's no big deal, it's healing slower because it's right on top of a big chunk of fat. However, it looks different from the others, it's all opened up, and yellow and green looking. It oozes orange liquid like what was in my drain. I don't know what to do. This doesn't seem right. Anytime I cover it with gauze it seems to ooze more. If I let it air out it seems to do better, but once I get in the shower and get it wet, when I get out of the shower it starts the oozing again. If I put neosporin on it it oozes more. It doesn't seem to like anything I do. Is this normal? Anyone else have a difficult incision?

My drain site is doing that and my surgeon's staff acted just the same. I reckon they don't realize how concerned we are for our own health and are not exposed to this sort of thing every day. Good luck with yours!!

It sucks! Mostly because I feel like this incision should be closed up like all the others, and it seems like the stitches didn't hold or something. So I have a 1.5 inch open incision with green and yellow lumps sticking out of it. It's red all around. I feel like at 10 days it shouldn't still be oozing.

That sounds like an infection. Does it feel warm or swollen? Hmmmm

Take a picture of it and send it to your surgeon..

Thought my big one was infected (same situation) and had pharmacist look at it when I was in store - they said to see Dr. Did - no big deal - not infected - NOT to put Neosporin on it for some reason. Just keep it clean and dry and NOT cover it. Took about another 10 days or so to improve but if it starts getting really hot and swollen GO!!!!

It sounds bad, and probably looks pretty bad, but I was told even pretty far out that that could still happen. Mine all healed well, but when I went to see my regular doc for a followup, he said that if it opened up and seeped a colored Fluid, not to be concerned, that it does happen. Like was mentioned above, make sure it's not too warm to the touch and make sure you don't have a fever.

Mine didn't do that, they stayed pretty clean, but these are the deepest incisions I have ever had and they do take a while to heal.

What I did want to add is that it is a great idea to call and ask if you can text/email a picture to the doctor's office. I had a suspicion about an incision after my breast reduction, and my husband texted the photo to the surgeon on a Saturday after talking with him. Some doctors are open to a little modern technology, which is refreshing.

I had the same problem I am four weeks post op I ended up getting butterfly band aides and put over do that it stays together but still can breathe. I also put neosporin on it at night and leave it open then clean and reapply the butterfly's in the morning. This sems to be helping it heal like the other four incisions. I was just at my surgeons office for follow up and he said its not infected they take a little longer to heal because they ate covered most of the time with binding waste bands. He told me to put neosporin on it at night but to continue what I am doing it will heal. If it is not swollen and hurting its not infected.

What I have heard is that if it has green/yellow oozing, the color signifies infection. Have this checked out.

Mine did the same, showed it to my surgeon,he said to clean it a couple times a day with hydrogen peroxide, keep it covered with guaze not a bandaid,so it can dry out. Then hr gave me antibiotics, but the didnt sit well in my sleeve, threw uo

I had no drain, but I bled a lot from that main incision. It broke open a few hours after I got home. I just had a lot of subcutaneous blood that needed to go somewhere. I had twisted trying to put away a casserole dish in the bottom cabinet. I wore a butterfly bandage (holds the wound together and gauze) for two weeks. If I didn't I would be walking around with Fluid and blood on my shirt. Cleaned it with iodine.

Yellow/green is infection. The wound should not close up with that infection still in there. See your surgeon.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
