I'm still fighting the sugar battle. I wish I would have never let myself slide so many days in a row and get my body re-addicted to it! My actions have caused an almost 2-month stall so that's been very discouraging and I totally let myself down. I didn't have any cravings really before I let sugar creep back in my diet...evil EVIL sugar. I know this journey isn't meant to be an easy fix and this goes to show we still have to make good choices and use our sleeve as a tool to help us lose the weight.

What about having sugar substitutes? There are a ton of sweets made with Splenda and other sweeteners. While I am not saying to go crazy with sugar-free canines, it is better for you than canines with real sugar.

I am having such a hard time with avoiding sugar right now. I went shopping and in the discount section, there was a whole bunch of chocolate candy. OMG! I wanted some so bad, so instead of the candy bars, I allowed myself to buy the ultimate chocolate brownie. Wow. When I took a bite, my stomach did not like it one bite. But it tasted so delishious! Now I just want more sugar! Don't like that I gave in! So uncontrolled. Here again my thoughts lied to me. When will I learn? Does anyone elso struggle with this? How do you handle it? :)

You are at goal? Do you not feel like you can have treat from time to time?

Yes, I struggle at times with this. My cure is to eat a choc Peanut Butter fudge PowerCrunch bar. It satisfies my sweet tooth, choc tooth, crunchy tooth, and gives me protein!!!! Yummmmmm...

Surgery can only do so much toward losing weight. and there are no ifs ands or buts on the subject of food addiction: it is as real as cocaine or alcohol addiction and, in fact, affects exactly the same pleasure/impulse control centers of the brain as recognized drugs. This is especially true of what David Kessler calls hyperpalatable foods -- foods dense in calories from sugar/fat/salt.

The good news -- and there IS good news -- is that a program of foods high in dopamine- and serotonin-boosting chemicals, along with numerous brain-amping activities (from simple exercise to listening to music) can regrow those receptors and minimize those cravings, rev up your impulsive control, and bring the confidence of fulfillment and health. Good luck!

So now I am intrigued....can you share about these foods and the program. I would find it very helpful.....:)

Now I'm confused. Pam Peeke M.D. is this an advertisement? I hate when some one is advertising because it's exploitation. I was under the impression that this is a support group for individuals who have had wls. If you are just advertising, then go to the paid advertisement section that is not deceiving!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
