Nightline "weigh Less Drink More"

Recommended Posts

I believe Carnie drank those 10 drinks spread out over an entire day but she felt she had a serious problem with alcohol. (I think her Dad had a problem with alcohol & drugs.)

My doctor says some people transfer addictions to sex, alcohol, shopping & even working out. I enjoy working out a lot & the more weight I lose, the greater the pull at the gym is. So, I see now that I could easily become addicted to one thing or another.

Lol @ choosing sex addiction. Sign me up too!!

My hub would be SO thrilled if I got a transfer addiction to sex! ;)

"Hey babe...I'm kinda hungry...Let's go!" LOL

Some people have also transferred their food addiction to gambling. Unless we truly work out in our heads what is making us medicate with food, which I don't know if I personally will ever be able to do completely, I don't think we can say we are out of the woods as far as transfer addictions.

I do drink, but I have to be very careful. It does hit fast.

I am a bit unusual because my surgeon's orders were NO DRINKING for one year post-op. And I actually followed that rule. (Broken others, but this one was not hard for me...lol.) So my sleeve was 10-22-10 and on 10-31-11 I had my first drink (at a Halloween party.) So I probably drink about once a month or less, and yes it does it hard and fast, so beware, the tiny tummy doesn't need much alcohol!!

About transfer addiction, I guess I can understand it but certainly it seems like something that if you feel predisposed towards something, then there is always help to combat that also. We all make choices, and sometimes the choice is asking for help.

Thanks M2G. It helps to know what others think & their personal experiences. I plan on following Dr's orders as well, and wait a year. It doesn't bother me unless I'm with a group of friends.

I can say I had a half pitcher of Crystal Light Margaritas (no alcohol) at my cookout yesterday & it was FA-BU-lous!!!

Did anyone else watch nightline last night, 6-18-12? It was "Weigh Less, Drink More?" about transferring your food addiction to alcohol. They talk about Carnie Wilson & Beth Sheldon-Badore, AKA: Melting Mama of Bariatric Bad Girls Club.

I'm only 1 month out, so I haven't had alcohol yet. Does it really affect you quicker & sober up quickly? What do y'all think about this phenomenon? Have you experienced it? I've never had a problem with alcohol, so it makes me nervous to drink anything.

I hardly drink at all. Monday while on Catalina I got a strongly mixed sea breeze (vodka, cranberry and grapefruit). I was buzzed for about 1/2 an hour. Took a walk and the effect was gone.

I guess I am the exception then! I used ot be able to handle 10 shots and two to three beers before getting drunk. One shot does me in now. I am so drunk, like stupid girl, for 10 minutes and then sober up. I have three friends with VSG who are the same way.

It's mostly an RnY thing, in terms of physical differences that cause alcohol to hit your system faster and be processed differently, which wouldn't happen with VSG. That said, transfer addictions (ie, psychological addictions transferring from food to shopping, drinking, etc.) are still a risk of course.

I decided when i had the surgery that i would not be doing any drinking ever again. My dad was an alchoholic so why tempt fate? I did start biting my nails since the surgery but have since quit....I have to sit back and really think before I do anything. I also became slightly addicted to chocolate but have kicked that bad habit. I was eating peanut M & M's like they were goin' outta style!

I have found myself drinking waaay too much wine. I can seriously have 3 glasses a night, every night. I KNOW this is holding me back with my weight loss, and am not quite sure what to do.

I was just thinking about this! I went out last night and had a little too much to drink. To add to my hungover headache, I decided to weigh. Bad idea. I gained 2 pounds from last night. :(

No more alcohol for me for a while.

It's a fact that after VSG, your stomach is much, much smaller. Thus, alcohol pretty much goes directly into your bloodstream. Alcoholism is higher to VSG people because of it.... You get that high fast , kind of like smoking crack goes right into a crack head's system, and they are hooked. I've read about it researching VSG. Also, when you lose weight, you feel better. You go out more. So, you are probably drinking more often. It's a risk you weigh. You know beforehand the statistics, and keep them in mind. My procedure is Friday. Can't wait!

I did have my first drink within this time period. Didn't have any problems, but it did affect me faster. I have been drinking to much lately and have decided to stop before it becomes a problem. I haven't lost any weight since June, and I believe it is because I have been drinking those empty calories. I would stay away from it if I were you!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
