LDS Bandsters

serving a mission, or work related? just curious. and welcome! or is it Welkommen? or something like that?

no not a mission unfortunately, we are too young for that. It is one of our future goals though to serve a senior mission. My husband served one of course, but I'm a convert so I didn't have the opportunity.

We are here for work. We love it. The Ward is amazing too! It's American mostly, so the services are in English and translated into German.

It's Wilkommen. I served in the Germany, Duesseldorf mission from 1993-1995.

So you live there now? I had misunderstood that you'd lived there in the past. I see that you got banded there. There aren't as many obese Germans as there are obese Americans. At least that's how I felt while there. What's your take?

Mr. NG...sorry to hear about your wife's decision. I know that the nutritionist I worked with had me stop drinking with meals BEFORE I even went to the surgeon's office. It was part of my pre-op stuff. I will admit, that since I did all that 6 mos. before surgery, it made it MUCH easier for it to be that way post band.

Keep your chin up, she may see your success with the band and change her mind again...you know how we women are. LOL

Has anyone else found it difficult for the 3 hr block since getting restriction?

I've noticed my attendance has been slack since getting restricted. After I was banded I maintained 100% attendance...even after the 1st fill. But since the 2nd fill-restriction...I've noticed I just don't go much anymore.

My ward met from 1-4...and I think because it was after feeding time... I always felt sickly.

I don't even go to movies as much anymore because 2 hrs is alot of time for me to be in 1 place.

Just to add...

this last Sunday was our last Sunday here...and I didn't even go...was sleeping.

You know, losing weight is hard...it takes so much physically and mentally.

I'm tired alot, slime if I don't watch it....

I'm 4 pounds away from my goal and in 2 weeks I get UNrestricted.

I look forward to the 3 hr block once again.

Since I'm not banded yet, I don't understand. Why is it hard to be in one place for very long? Do you need to eat more often? We have church over 30 minutes away and usually have meetings before and/or after church, so it's often a 6-8 hour day for us on Sundays. Yikes.

Yeah i'm here now. I've been to Duesseldorf, just to the airport though, it's 2 hrs away. There aren't as many obese Germans, your right. My dr. mostly does American's for the military gastric bypass patients. I self payed for the band, the Tricare didn't cover it at the time and I didn't have any comorbitities.

so you must speak German then? We have quite a few friends who served their missions here. I'm sure it was amazing!

I don't have a problem staying anywhere for a long time. I do the 3 hr. block and wait for my husband to do clerk stuff too. I do get starving in that time, so sometimes i stick a snack in my bag to hold me over. Or start eating the kids cherios and goldfish, lol.

I have no problems sitting through movies either. My life is pretty much the same except I have more energy and have so many more things I want to do that I was too self conscious to do before.

I'm headed down towards St. George....kids going to SUU.

Sorry to freak newbies out...no,the band doesn't cause you not to be able to be somewhere for hours on end...

that's just me. I have hypoglycemia...low blood sugar. So if I don't eat, I get the shakes. Sometimes I don't even feel hunger...I just start shaking. BUT if I get hungry...I have to eat quickly or else.

So, all my life I've gotten up at the crack of dawn ...then Breakfast.

So lunch is 11am. So you can see by 1pm, start of church it's been 2 hours since eating. I usually snack at 2...but it's still Sacrament meeting. So 2 more hours...I just can't do it.

I'm well restricted...about as tight as you can get without damaging anything. So I slime frequently if I'm not careful. And at times I seem tighter than others so I never know what lunch will bring.

Thus my delima...1-4 for church is difficult for me.

I get hungry so I just take a snack. I have taken a Water bottle with me since the first Sunday after banding and now I just take along a snack. because you can hear my stomach if I don't, it gets loud.

now my husband choses not to take a snack, just waits it out then is over hungry by the time we get home. (block is 11-2 until the first of the year then 1-4)

good luck and welcome all

I am LDS as well. I am currently living in the Provo/Orem area, but I am originally from Southern Utah (GraceUtah - where exactly do you live in the St. George area . . . maybe my hometown?)

I was banded a little over two months ago in Salt Lake City.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
