I need advice on what a pre-op diet consists of. My surgery date is July 2 but my three hour pre-op class isn't until June 22. I would call my contact at my doctor's office but I have a feeling she doesn't know what she is talking about. When I asked what the average hospital stay is she told me 90% of people go home the same day. HELP!!!

Hospital stay varies from doctor to doctor. Some actually DO send their patients home the same day. I don't know that I agree with that strategy, but it happens.

As for pre-op diet - that's actually VERY important - every doctor is different. Some do a strict low-carb phase, some do a liquid diet, some do two weeks, some only a week. So I would definitely call the office back and ask to speak with the nurse. She should know her stuff, and if she doesn't then I'd consider another surgeon . . .

I am also scheduled for July 2. Didn't the surgeon give you any literature? My Dr. has given me pages and pages of stuff about pre, post and long term.

Since your two week diet should start on monday i would call the surgeon's office. In my opinion you can't wait until the 22nd to find out about your pre-op diet.

my pre-op diet is 2 weeks of low fat/ low carb 1200 calories diet

My surgery is July 23rd (Tuesday) and I start my liquid diet 14 days before on 7/10. I will be discharged from the hospital on Friday 7/26. Same day or even 1 day seems too soon!

Mine is June 27th and I start liquid pre op diet next week. My dr told me I will stay 1-2 days. He also gave me a 3ring binder with pre and post op diet info, however I also found several web pages helpful after googling vertical sleeve pre/post op diets.

Good luck!!!

Also I received Meal Replacements powders that I mix with Water from my doctor. There are 42 total... 3x per day for 14 days. I have shakes, pudding and cream Soup mixes so hopefully they are palatable! I can also eat sugar free Jello, sugar free Popsicles and unlimited water and/or crystal light. I think I can hang!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
