Did/will You Announce Your Surgery?

Recommended Posts

My plan is not to tell anyone. I hope to lose only about 50 pounds and then say to people I have stopped porking out so much and been working out a bit. My aunt lost like over 100 pounds' date=' we used to call her miss piggy behind her back and one christmas she was normal weight with loose skin. no one had the balls to ask her but people did judge her behind her back. I just want people to think I am strong on my own and not to judge me. I don't even want to tell my husband, although I am sure he will find out, I just want to have surgery done before he knows so he can't stop me. I just hope insurance approves it.[/sub']

@fatiniowa. You need to tell someone especially your husband. You needed supporters. You can do this alone but it will be very difficult without someone to support you.

And this surgery is not the easy way out! This is tough and only strong people can handle it. That's why everyone gets a psych evaluation at first.

Remember your doing this for YOU. Your health! Your body! Your mind. Print out information on the surgery and sit your husband down or someone else you trust and educate them about the surgery and then explain that's what you want. You news family support hun! And all of us are and will always be here to support you. But you need someone to support you outside of here! Good luck hun!

I told most of my family, and most coworkers. At first I wanted to keep it to a few but honestly when I start loosing they will wonder and ask and I don't feel right lying so I just put it all on the table! Don't care what they think. So far all have been supportive and happy that it was a success. Even checking on my with my complication in the hospital! Not one negative comment!

I can see eventually saying something' date=' but I'm pretty private and I don't like to draw attention to myself. I'm just planning to keep it on the down-low for the time being.[/quote']

Buffalogal - interesting name. I see you joined just a few days before I did. We raise beefalo cattle so that is how I chose my screen name of beefalogal.

I am the type that do not care what one...thinks or say about me...#onlygodcanjudgeme period...I have told people, and will continue to!! There are a few women I work with ...that u can clearly tell had the surgery...n I asked one of them ...u have lost a lot of weight..what did u do? She replied...cut back on calories a lot! Ok technically she did not lie...but she left out her biggest tool that allows cutting a lot of calories possible. I would not mind sharing that I chose wls, cuz what if that person needs to hear that at that moment in time..n I can help answer any? 'S that they might have about wls...what if me speaking openly about it.. will help them to see it is really nothing to be ashamed of. I think it takes a strong person to admit they have had the surgery when asked... just because a person has a normal bmi do not mean they are healthier then u... so what that being said ....u cares what anyone thinks!!!..Ijs

I'm being sleeved too and I am proud of it as well....just because some people choose to not tell everyone about their WLS doesnt mean they are not proud that they took charge of their health...

I am very proud of myself....

Hi Beefalogal,

I'm buffalogal for two reasons: I'm an alumni of the University of Colorado, who's mascot is the buffalo, and I like the song "Buffalogals". Nice to meet you. I'm assuming beefalo is a cross between cattle and bison?

I am same as you ..i have had surgery and not told a single soul.. not even my partner.. as far as he was aware i was in hospistal for "cysts" and him thinking girly problems never questioned me..my resoning is because when i had lapbanding my ex husband blabbed to friends and family especially after i asked him not to say anything..so was very much judged. so lapband out and sleeve in ,, new partner new friends and no one knows not even family..all have just seen me doing my high Protein low carb diet and lots and lots of walking... as for support.. well I am a pretty tough now after being hurt by ex so realise the best support i can get is from me and my belief in myself.. and of course always coming on this site to see how others do it... good luck with yours xx

At first I intended to tell no one other than my immediate family and doctors. In the last couple of weeks I have started telling people when as it comes up. Like if someone asks me what I'm doing this summer, I respond that I plan to spend the first part of summer recuperating from surgery. If they ask what kind, I tell them. I was at a birthday party yesterday and told a close family friend and my mother in law when they questioned why I wasn't eating much or drinking. I'm still pre-op, but am watching my calorie intake, even before surgery. The two I told yesterday are two of the biggest loud mouths I know, so I'm sure half the city knows by this morning. :P

Only my husband knows. I have done all liquid diets before, so no one will even question why I am not eating or drinking. If all goes according to plan, I am just going to let people observe what I actually eat. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that one will lose weight eating that little.

There are going to be people who judge you negatively for having WLS, it's going to happen. But that's no reason to live a lie and be dishonest. Don't sacrifice your own character to appease others.

Besides, your own openness and honesty will also likely inspire someone else to seek WLS and possibly save their own life.

I started out thinking that I wasn't going to tell a soul. Throughout my year long journey, I have decided that I am a fool if I think people won't find out. I work at an auction where I see the same people week after week. They will all have questions about how I lost the weight. Undoubtedly, they will ask another person who is helping them and be told. I am not a fool to think that people at my work will not say anything.

I also know that my husband would have not kept it a secret. I decided not to set him up for failure and just give him my permission to tell.

Then I decided, the whole dang world can know because I don't care. When the customer's at my work ask why I am going to be off work, I just tell them point blank. Everyone I have told is very supportive (at least to my face ;) )

If they decide to bash me behind my back about the surgery, they would definitely talk bad about me regardless of the subject.

My only fear in telling everyone is that I don't lose any weight and look like a failure.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
