I Finally Found Out Why I'm Hesitant To Give Away Clothes That Are Too Large

Recommended Posts

There was a post on this forum awhile ago about this and DUH! it finally hit me.

It's not that I'm afraid I will gain the weight back.

After years of wearing things that were busting at the seams and too tight, it feels great to slip into something too big and to have to have a belt to keep your pants from falling down.

So now I have 14s and 12s in my closet. I belt the 14s and it makes me feel happy.

Silly huh?

Hi Catracks

I really do understand what your doing, keeping a few big clothes, and whatever works for you, kindof reminding you of your previous size - don't hold on to too many though - thats a past you might want to remember alittle, but put it on the back burner and turn it on very low ;)

i, on the other hand I did something so stupid a couple of years ago.

I gave ALL my lovely smaller clothes to the Rescue Mission, cuz i figured i would never be able to fit in them again. They took up so much room in the closet, it was depressing seeing stuff i couldn't wear,

Now i can't go clothes shopping as they say in the closet

It would have been so wonderful trying these chlothes on that have been too tight on me, eventually fitting me - or not being as tight anyway :( Oh well, just another day in the life....................

I'll take something a little loose over something too tight any day. Even as a kid, I didn't like anything that was tight or hit me at or above my belly button. Now my mom gives me a hard time about dressing my son in clothes that are too big!

I'm sorta with you here. Althought I'm gonna get rid of all my pants & shorts as they no longer fit, I'm gonna keep most of my big shirts. Not like my wife would let me get rid of them anyhow (she regularly steals my clothes).

It's funny. I'd be in a sorry state had I not saved clothes from size 6 all the way up to 18. I had them in those vacuum bags in the garage. In fact I bought so many size 12, 14 and 16s that I had about 15 pairs of pants for each size. For me that is quite a lot. It seems that those sizes were my yo-yo area.

I too struggled with this but my change came over a year ago after the tornado ripped up Joplin. We went through our closet and donated HUNDREDS of items of clothing. I learned afterwards that probably little of it actually went to Joplin as they were overwhelmed and took donations of NEW items first, but none the less it got 'em out of my closet and into some other fatties closet (shame on me for saying that:) )

Yeah, shame on you :-P ;-)

I have always been a hugh donator of clothes. I think between my daughter and I we keep St. Vincent de Paul and Goodwill going. These are just a few of my favorite cargo pants with lots of cool pockets I cannot let go of.

I still think I'm totally mental and should ditch them ... then again they are comfy soft cargo pants. Maybe I should take a picture of myself. they probably look silly all gathered up by a belt and are as unflattering as hell.

Some catty peer pressure here please.

So now I have 14s and 12s in my closet. I belt the 14s and it makes me feel happy.

The late great luther vandrose i heard tell had three different closets - which had his various sized clothes in different areas.

One closet, his extremely big sized clothes, and medium size clothes in the other, and smallest clothes in the last one.

Kindof sad that he knew to expect his sizes would vary, so he needed to keep all different sized clothes :(

I have the exact opposite problem, I cant get rid of them quick enough. I am now is a size 12 pant and L top and I just got rid of some more clothes, 14's and 16's and some old ones that were to the back of the closet. I dont ever want to fit in those again so I dont need them. I am going to donate them to the sleeve support group I go to.

I have a question along these lines. Every time I went up in size my wife claimed ownership of the clothes that I out grew. Now that I'm getting smaller again, how do I go about repossessing my old wardrobes??

Go to her closet and steal them back when she leaves the house. Find a good hiding spot for them ;-)

Yes, re-appropriate. Tell her if she wants them back. she has to take them off you ...

I'm so sorry. i just got off a thread where they were talking about "Wangs" and "Hoo Haas." It's been a very long day.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
