Incision Healing...dry Or "wet"

Recommended Posts

Curious what all of you have heard...

My surgeon in MX was very explicit about not putting anything on my incisions. That they needed to stay dry, and open to air as much as possible. Went to the dermatologist here locally today for a heat rash I'd developed and she saw my incision sites. She asked what instructions I'd received and I told her. Then asked her what she'd be doing if it was her. She said she'd be keeping them moist...with something as simple as Vaseline. When I had a breast reductn a couple years ago they had me using polysporin on my incisions liberally. Derm lady today said they don't like polysporin since some folks have a allergic reaction and it just makes things worse.

So...I'm curious...what were your instructions?

I have staples right now (they're coming out tomorrow) and I was told to remove the dressings Day 3 or 4 (I can't remember) and keep the sites very dry.

I'm not sure what instructions I will get after my staples come out tomorrow.

I use Vitamin E oil now that my incisions are mostly healed. I've learned through the years keeping them moist helps reduce scar appearance.

I have dermabond and was told I can shower but don't submerge them in Water. The glue should eventually wear off and magically I should be all healed. I was reading through the literature from the doctors office and it did saw I could put neosporin on them but I'm gonna let them do their own thing. I had to get cleared to go back to work and the OMS nurse said my incisions are healing nicely.

I was told to leave the surgistrips on the two small incisions until they fell off. When I shower, I don't srub them, just let Water wash over and than pat dry gently. For my big incision, which I can't even really see since it is inside my belly button, he said to take the large bandaid off, pull out the gauze stuffed in my belly button, take my shower and then gently pat inside my belly button dry, put fresh gauze in there and recover with another large bandaid. So far, so good.

I am 8 days out.

Sue

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
