My Unexpected Nsv - It Rocked!

Recommended Posts

OK - so last night was quite a NSV, or maybe more than one.

I went to the Toyota Center here in Houston to go see Rammstein (think German punk/industrial).

So it started out with me realizing I had nothing to wear - so I went out and boutght a pair of 36 Dickies workpants - after realizing 38 were too loose, and searched my closet one more time and found a military pinstripe steampunk shirt I had made for a guy friend but he never picked it up - fit!

So I throw on a red tie and some extras and my steel toes boots and off I go.

I stopped at smoothie place I go into regularly (in workout garb or very casual) and they just flipped out - I thought for a bit they were joking (the outfit is not something most walk around in 90 degree heat, or for tha matter 40 degree, lol). They bought my smoothie for me, took my pic, I have promised a before pic to post with it, too.

I get to the center and I blend in. I wasn't the big chick, I was just another face. My shirt got several looks (that shirt rocks on its own) but past the costume I was just another person. I didnt have to worry about the seat, or the person to either side of me.

I didn't need a purse. I just has some cash, a couple cards, id, and my asthma inhailor (unfortunatey that is more allergy related than weight, and smoke is a big trigger). No BG meter, no meds. So in the first time in for-absolutely-ever I just walked out with the fewest necessities! Crazy!

Outside the venue my friend who was meeting me there could not find me, Even when I got up on a bench and waved. She had not seen me in a couple of years. She told me "I mean, I knew it had to be you, but I was like, no way!"

There is actually more, but if you have been this patient I guess I should wrap it up! lol.

It.Just.Felt.So.Good!

Hahaha, I am still getting used to the terminology too, I was going to ask so I'm glad you did but now as I look at it - I'm thinking it has to do with Nice or New Sleeve Victory?

Pookey congrats, I bet that is a wonderful feeling and I can't wait for moments like that myself. I love industrial myself. I like industrial music myself and Rammstein is fun, it's kind of like industrial meets metal ;) Thanks for sharing a successful moment with us!

Thank you! Yes, Rammstein is awesome, there has always been trouble with are they hard industrial or punk with hardcore, etc...but anyway the show was top three in presentation that I have ever seen. I have been to many, many shows.

If you are familliar then you probably know how hardcore these get - and one thing I did not mention was I was seated to where we were all standing and just going at it for the whole four hours - and no tired feeling, soreness, achy feet, etc.

Pookey, Great NSV!!! I am laughing because your friend didn't recognize you! That's terrific!

BTW, My sons love Rammstein, so I've definitely heard a good bit of their music! Pretty good, IMO! :)

That is awesome! It is the best feeling to have someone not recognize you! My son has been on the same little league baseball team 2 seasons & his coach came up to me at the start of this one & shook my hand & introduced himself! I just laughed & said who I was - he was embarrassed but I said don't be you just made my day!!!!

Thank you for sharing! I love reading about these and you definitely did not overshare :) The NSV's are what make this whole process worth it. More than numbers and even clothing sizes. The NSV's make us shout for joy and plaster smiles on our faces... to read that someone else is experiencing it as well is an awesome feeling! It makes me feel proud, even though I don't know you personally.

Good job and keep it up! I am so happy for you!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
