Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Well no sleeve for me :(

The surgeon accidentally knicked my bowel, so he stitched it back up and has me on hard core antibiotics. Hopefully he will do the sleeve Friday.

So sorry to hear that. It must be frustrating to have to wait! My surgeon nicked my spleen during the surgery and I lost a lot of blood. I totally trust and respect him as a surgeon, I guess like all of us surgeons are human and these things happen. They are working in a very confined space. I wish you well for Friday! :)

Hi guys. I'm feeling quite flat and disillusioned at the moment. Still in hospital. Physically I feel fine with little to no pain. Still on lots of IV antibiotics. Plan is to go ahead with the sleeve on Friday. I'm terrified that something else will go wrong. And my emotions are all over the place. Getting teary just writing this post. What the hell is going on with me? I want this surgery. It will b the best thing I have ever done. So why am I so scared?

I think you feel perfectly normal. Cut yourself some slack. Just take it easy on yourself and take this time to rest and relax. Do you have a good book to read?

I agree with Misty, try and do something to take your mind off things and try and relax and enjoy the break. Maybe try some meditation and picture yourself on a sun drenched beach in a bikini next summer!! That should put a smile on your face!

Tomorrow is fine with me. How about Ben's Alibi this time? If anyone else wants to go, let me know. We don't need to book for two.

I think this is totally normal to feel like this. Not only did you have the complication but you're also probably disappointed that you haven't had the sleeve as planned. These things add up and can leave you feeling pretty anxious.

I agree that distraction can be helpful and also just weighing up the pros and cons. The anxiety is just one of the cons and when you see it written down it can help put it into perspective.

There should be a hospital social worker too- ask for a chat to talk it out with them- again anxiety is at it's worst when you're feels g alone and vulnerable. Keep talking about it and problem solving the concerns you're raising- as much as you can.

Once you make this choice to proceed, you can then use some basic strategies like identifying if it is a real problem in the now or a projected problem/ future problem. Ask yourself "is there anything I can do about this right now?" If so, make a plan and then DO it. If not, then try to sit back from the problem and acknowledge that it hasn't happened so I can leave that alone.

Doesn't always work but if you keep at it I guarantee you will feel better!!

All the best! Thinking of you and hope the week goes fast and you'll be sleeved before you know it :)

Cheers Liss

I had my 3 month appt (2 weeks early) with my surgeon. He said I'm doing really well, happy with my loss and I'm textbook! And that was literally it! Whilst I'm happy with this it was such a waste of time so I know how you feel Misty!

On a better note I got these really good exercises while waiting.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
