Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone I am having my surgery in Perth on Tues 5th Feb. Was feeling very anxious wondering if it was the right thing to do. I have only told a few people & the general comment is I am taking the easy way out. After reading all the great posts & wonderful comments here I am now really relaxed & know its the right decision for me. Can't wait for this time next week.

Yeah, other peoples opinions - who needs 'em :P :P

The reality is for more than 99% of obese people, despite sometimes continuos attempts to lose weight, they will never be a healthy weight.

Easy way out is a pretty narrow perspective :)

Oh wow, lets take the easy way out and have 3/4 of our stomachs removed!!!!! It's a last resort. Certainly not easy. We have all had to make some major adjustments since sleeve surgery. The naysayers may well eat their words when they see the results. Go for it!! And all the very best for your surgery.

Oh BTW, I am getting rid of some of my clothes too. I have Events sz 16 jacket, sz 16 Table Eight black cap sleeved top, a couple of David Lawrence tops, jeans, 3/4 pants. I've got photos as well, wondering how I can put them on here, will keep you posted. I had planned on putting them on gumtree. I live in Brisbane. Message me if you would like pics.

I agree - now that I am at goal I sure don't get many people saying ' oh you should never of had that operation'.

I never worry about what other people think - this was all about me!! Any huge weight loss is never easy and people that say that really have no idea what is involved so I would just laugh it off - or I agree with them and then ask if it is something they ever considered (because I have a wicked streak!).

Of course, if there was any other way we could have lost weight, with the guarantee that it would stay off for life, (because this is all about life!) then we all would have taken that road. As it stands, all the studies show that this is currently one of the only effective treatments for long term weight loss - as told to me by my GP!

Gee - I got on my soap box a bit there!

People haven't been negative to me but that's only because I've only told my immediate family. Kazza I am sorry you're getting some negative opinions but you have to remember the old saying.....opinions are like a&@holes, everyone has one!!! It's your body and your life and I think you are the best person to determine what is right for you. Good luck for Tuesday, will be thinking of you. Who is your surgeon by the way?

Hi all,

I am booked for my gastric sleeve at Joondalup Hospital on 5 March. The wait has been several weeks already and I am soooooo impatient for it to happen!

I am 58 with 5 adult children, 1 adorable little grandson and an even more adorable partner (lucky me!)

Can't wait for my journey to begin, so many reasons why I want this, too many to mention.

Although it will be great to find clothes in the same shops that my sisters and sisters-in-law shop - 4 sisters and 4 sisters-in-law!!! And me, always the odd one out but .... not for much longer Yippee

I have ready ever blog of the 134 pages so have a pretty good idea and already have the shakes ready to go, the Knife Fork Band cookbook and much more.

Hi Kazza

I am seeing Armstrong as well. He is a wonderful specialist and is very trustworthy as I am sure you would agree. He was also the one who reassured me that this did not mean I had failed and that genetics as well as statistics were against obese people. Not always but in a lot of cases. Focus on your own personal reasons as this is a very personal decision. I am doing this for my health and to be there to support my family for as long as I can. Good luck and let me know how it goes with Mr Armstrong!!

Ugh really awful day today and very stressful...it's days like this that I really notice (1) how I can no longer eat when stressed and (2) that I really have very few other coping strategies besides food. I am not joking - I stopped at woolies on the way home from work and bought M&M's, mint bubbly chocolate and that cadbury marvellous stuff that has the snapping candy in it. It's all in the fridge - I won't eat it but ridiculously I still feel better for buying it. Sigh. I will take it in to work tomorrow and be a hero with the admin staff :)

Have now had a shower (after a good cry) and a whinge to you guy's. I am going to call a mate soon to unload on her...stupid work ruining my life lol...hope you guy's are going better!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
