Will Drinking Too Much Stretch My Precious Sleeve?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I am 5 days post op and I am having no troubles drinking at all. I just drank an entire can of chicken broth with no problems, then it hit me. Am I stretching my sleeve by drinking too much at once? I'm not talking big gulps or anything, just regular drinks. It didn't hurt at all. But I'm so scared of stretching my sleeve. I thought I read somewhere that I was only supposed to have 2 or 3 oz every 15 minutes. Is this true?

Thanks for the help!

Cynthia

liquids pretty much flow right through our sleeves, so you won't feel any restriction from them for a while. Your new sleeve is also numb from the trauma of surgery. I only ever had pain from my sleeve when I drank too much and it overfilled, then I'd have shoulder pain.

You probably won't stretch your sleeve from just drinking liquids. It's pretty tough, but you should definitely be looking for any discomfort signals if you're able to drink a lot at a time.

Maybe in the first few days after surgery, but you would have to be drinking about 17 hours a day in order to get all of your fluids in at that rate. I think the concern for a really easy pace is for the initial phase. You need to keep steady drinking tho to get it all in. IMO

I only drank 2-3 ounces every 15-30 mins when I first came out of surgery. Now I can get down 14-20 ounces in about an hour. I don't gulp, but I do crave liquids after working out so I do get a good amount in me in a much shorter time frame. Good luck.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
