Recommended Posts

As any of you messed up and had something to drink right after eating? What happens when you do that? Ive been told not to do it but i dont know whats the reason for it and if if i will get pain or throw up if i happen to mess up. Im still on day 9 so i havent done it but i just wonder if i mess up what would happen.

You'd probably overload your sleeve very quickly and to your extreme discomfort. Better to wait, I know.

I'm 17 days post op and I've made the mistake of eating and drinking at the same time. The doc says not to do it because it can cause the food to pass through quicker and make you hungry again. But the feeling is AWFUL. For me it's like I've overeaten and I'm about to explode and it's very uncomfortable, thankfully I don't throw up. It just makes me miserable, takes awhile for it to go away. So if you can avoid it at all costs, definitely not a fun feeling.

It causes your food to pass through your pyloric valve to empty your stomach out and could cause you to throw up. However, I have accidently taken a sip and nothing happen but I don't drink before the meal or after the meal for at least 30 minutes. ;)

Drinking with meals makes the food pass through the stomach quicker and you will not get all the nutritional value. Also you will be hungry sooner.

My nut told me that if I needed a small sip with a meal it is okay. I just can't take a big drink while I eat. I will take a little sip after I am done eating.

It feels horrible, especially with a new sleeve. It made me feel like I was going to throw up, but couldn't. Now at around 9 months out, I take a small (very, very small) sip now and then while I'm eating and it's not too bad, but still uncomfortable. It's best to follow the rules on this one:)

PROTIP though:

if you do accidentally eat too much, or the wrong food, drinking helps.

I've found that I can't throw up since surgery... (strange right?) like I ate something that didn't sit well with me, and my body kept trying to throw it up and I couldn't no matter what I did..

after an hour of trying to throw up and almost going to the hospital, I chugged a Powerade zero and it washed everything down and I felt fine in like 2 min.

Well I'm the opposite of Jay.....if I drink after I eat I throw up. I tried it a few times without giving it much thought but now I never drink before 30 min post eating. Out of habit I was still ordering a drink when we went out to dinner but I don't anymore so I won't forget & drink. I guess like everything about this journey, it's different for everyone.

I'm only 4 weeks out and I really haven't found any slider foods yet. I guess that will happen later as my sleeve heals and the capacity increases. Early on I think eating and drinking at the same time is more of an overfill problem and then later down the road it becomes a slider issue. I do sometimes take a very tiny sip of Fluid once or twice during my 1/3 cup meals, but I'm careful not to overdo it.

I made the mistake of drinking too quickly after eating once at work. I ate some deli meat while on break and about 15 minutes later I took several large drinks of Water (I have to talk a lot at work so I get thirsty easily). I ended up having to run to the bathroom to throw up. I was about 6 weeks post-op and am now 5 months. I do take a couple sips of water throughout my meal, especially if it's spicy/hot or it feels like something is caught.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
