Spouses During The Hospital Stay

Recommended Posts

Still in planing stage- I have my kids with my parents for the two day hospital visit.

DId anyone have their spouses with them during the hospital stay? Did you get a hotel room?

I am getting it done @ Penn Presbyterian in Philadelphia. I only live 40 minutes away in Jersey, but trying to anticipate the logistics..

thanks

My husband was there during my surgery and when they brought me to my room but went home once I was settled. There was no point in him being there. I just wanted to rest at first and not be bothered by tv noise and talking.

My husband spent the night with me and I'm so glad he did. I told him he didn't have to but wound up needing him after all. We you're heaving and ready to puke, the nurse can't get there fast enough to help you. And when you need to go to the bathroom at 3am, I'd rather have my husband help me than to wait on the nurse.

My husband was there during the surgery until dinner that night. I don't remember much of that since I was slow to come out of anesthesia and I was so nauseous that the anti-nausea meds knocked me out. He came back the next afternoon, but unfortunately just after I'd gotten another dose of anti-nausea meds so when I fell asleep he went home again. Really, I barely remember him until day three when he was with me the whole day walking and talking. Its tough to pre-plan what or who you will need and when.

Did you get a hotel room?

feszyk,

no i had a headache :D

my DH came to hospital w/me and stayed through the surgery and recovery room til i got to my room.

We live very close to the hospital, so he went home - i just asked him your question about sleeping accomadations, he said he would have spent the night at a motel/hotel if we lived 40 minutes away.

good luck

kathy

my husband stayed in the room with me. The had a pull out "bed". We live 1.5 hours away from the hospital we used. We got lucky as there are only two rooms on the whole wing with them. It was not comfy at all and he did not sleep well. The hospital where I was has hotel vouchers for family. They are local hotels that offer a big discount for family members. He was going to stay at the Hilton for only 70 a night (it is usually 170) but he decided to stay with me. You can see if your hospital offers the same type of thing. He didn't really bother me at all. He played on the Ipad and phone and watched TV most of the time while I walked or slept.

My husband stayed with me. Luckily at my hospital the Bariatric patients get private rooms so there was no problem with him staying. and like VACookey said it was wonderful having him there when I was puking and the nurses weren't paying attention to me. I got to go home the next afternoon so it wasn't too bad, but I am really glad he was there to help me through it all.

We lived about 30 minutes from the hospital, but that's nothing to us as our commutes to work are an hour long. We played it by ear and he decided to spend the night in the room with me. They had one of those chairs that turns into a bed. While I'm sure I would've been fine if he'd gone home, it was really nice having him there with me. He could help me reach things I needed, getting to the bathroom, etc. and all too often the nurses didn't come when I hit the button. He would be able to go out and get them to come much sooner. He left the next morning to feed our pets and shower, and for the few hours he was gone -- I really missed having him around. He's such a sweet husband...

My husband stayed with me. He wouldn't leave me even if I told him to!

My mother took me to the hospital and my hubby came as soon as he got off work. He spent the night with me and when he went to work the next morning my mother came back. He came back after work and spent the night again. My mother came back again for awhile after he went to work. He came and picked me up to go home when he got off. I spent very little time alone. I would have been angry if he had of left me up there alone to go home!

My husband was the same way. I have to say, my husband was more attentive than the nurses. He is the one that would unhook me so I could go to the bathroom or for a walk and then hook me back up. I had told him I didn't want him there all the time, but now, I don't know what I would have done with out him there. He showered me with love and care and trust me, he's not the nursing type so it was nice to see his soft side for two days. :)

My hospital also provided a private room for patients with a bmi over 40. I'm assuming this is a standard practice, as the beds are usually bigger. The surgical coordinator at your doctors office should know about this.

We have a four year old so hubs had to go home when the daycare closed. Truthfully, I didn't miss him at all. I had a catheter so I didn't need help to the restroom, the nurses were fabulous and I slept like silly. :)

This was my 4th major abdominal surgery- so we're old pros now. Once I was in my room I sent him home to be with the kids so that I could press that pain pumps button to my little hearts content!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
