When Are Nuts And Almonds Generally Allowed?

Recommended Posts

I have a list from my surgeon for post op diet and the weeks they are allowed, but don't see mention of almonds or nuts. I can have Peanut Butter now, so is it safe to assume as long as they are chewed well, I can have almonds and nuts? Any thoughts?

I guess it depends on how far out you are from surgery. My Doctor/Nutrionist said about five or six months before any nuts are allowed. I would ask your nutritionist.

I don't think nuts were allowed for me until 3 months post-op. I'd have to pull out my nut's book, but that's when I remember adding them into my meal plan. I still haven't added in strawberries, which I know were restricted until six months out.

I am at four months post op, although it seems longer, and I have added cashews and occasional almonds. Cashews are a good source of potassium. I do chew them well.

Lissa, do you know why strawberries are restricted? I have eaten some.

I was eating almonds, cashews and peanuts 4 weeks post op. No problems. I made a trail mix with raisins and dried cranberries. I had strawberries 4 weeks out too. They were awesome!

Strawberries have tons of tiny little black seeds in them, which "could" get caught in the staple line and cause an abcess. That's the explanation I got.

Almonds and sunflower seeds are in my foods to eat for healthy fats starting with solid foods which was 5 full weeks out. I am now 7 weeks out and just the last couple days started a few almonds chewing really well. Strawberries have scared me because of the tiny black seeds too, but my doctor didn't say anything about them.

I starting eating just about anything when I went on solid food starting at week 7. It's funny. I started thinking about chewing just now and realized that I really haven't been chewing things to death. It doesn't seem to bother me. I really LOVE almonds. If fact, I have both almonds and strawberries in my lunch today with some Havarti dill. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

Havarti Dill...I'm intrigued...is it a dip?

It's a Dutch cheese with dill. It also comes plain and with caraway. It's a semi-soft cheese, creamy, but more firm than brie. It's one of my favorites.

Havarti is my favorite cheese...I am surprised that I have never heard of the dill flavored kind...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
