It probably would be best to go ahead and give up smoking. Since you are starting a new life, now is the best time to commit to better health in general.

If you quit to get your sleeve you have already given it up. Just stick with it, this is your new healthy life.

Just don't. It would be a damned shame to have a life altering operation to extend your life only to go back to smoking again and shorten it back down again.

I know its hard. I just quit in January and I still want one everyday. I also do not want to go back to that. I want to get my sleeve and get to be a healthier and skinnier self and cigarettes only slow things down and cause you to age more. I will always want one and when I get stressed I think about it but I am going to fight it all I can.

Smoking has been proven to slow healing and cause excessive scar tissue formation. It's going to take a nonsmoker at least six weeks to heal after surgery. If you stay off the cigarettes that long, why start again?

All the best with your surgery!

I agree with everyone above. If your health is important to you, your best bet is to give it up.

Sleeve operation for weight loss= Life Giver

Smoking= Life Taker

Don't cancel one out with the other. (ex-smoker speaking. I KNOW it's hard. Just consider it.)

If you start smoking again, you could give yourself life threating complications. You aren't out of the woods as far a leaks and strictures that could develope from scar tissue. I know how hard it is. I smoked for awhile and have been smoke free for 10 years. Do it for yourself... Don't start back!

that was not the answer you were looking for I smoke and had my sleeve 4/4 I had a cigarette today but then realized how stupid that is. I just had major surgery to improve my life and I am smoking to end it. I decided then and there to stop. you can do it too

As a non-smoker of 7 years, I understand your dilemma. If you're not going to quit then wait at least long enough to ensure you have sufficiently recuperated from your surgery and there is possible complications from post-surgical pneumonia. I'd think at least 30 days.

I smoked for 5 years and quit 2 years ago cold turkey on my 200th try...I was told the dr would absolutely not do sleeve or bypass if you smoked only lapband..it also can cause an ulcer/ gastritis(isn't fun I had a bad case for 6months)..I personally know how hard it is but I also know I wouldn't even think of the surgery if I still smoked..I know your looking for a legit answer but it will take weeks /months for your stomach to remotely heal so you wont be able to smoke that whole time anyway

      Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
