5 Weeks Out--Fatigue And "water Nausea"

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am about 5 weeks post op. I'm wondering if other people have had the experience where one day everything is fine and the next day you're inexplicably tired and have a hard time making it through the day (or need a nap)? Just curious about where other people are with energy. I was told at my last appt two days ago that my Protein needs to be above 70g/day when I thought it was supposed to be right at 70 (which I have not been great at hitting), so that may be playing a part as well....

...also, plain Water makes me nauseous. It always made me feel sick to drink water first thing in the morning, even before surgery, but now, I get really nauseous drinking it at all (cold, warm, room temp--it doesn't matter) unless I mix about 4 oz of juice with maybe 16 oz of water and put in tons of ice. I told the PA and she said other people have complained about the water-nausea thing, but she didn't say anything about when or if I can expect to be able to just drink a glass of water (I know everyone is different, but still...). It's funny because everything I drink has to be watered down with plenty of ice but plain water is an absolute no right now...

Try Sobe Water 0 calories or crystal light in your water too. I am having a hard time getting Protein in but doing my best. I do take 2 Flinstones a day that I know helps

Yes, lemon works great and use the crystal light, I put about one third of the normal amount in, just for a bit of flavor and it worked great. They have a lot of good flavors too, my fav is grape, reminds me of grape bubble yum from my childhood!

I actually had a follow up appointment yesterday and was told that the "water nausea" would come and go. The surgeon advised that I should just drink crystal light and unsweetened Decaf tea.

I hate plain bottled Water, PRE-op I was crazy about those little diet Snapple packets, now I can't stand them! I love, love sugar free Kool Aid packets in my water. Since I started drinking them this last week, I've been easily drinking a 32 oz sports bottle of water, the most I've had since surgery and I do feel better. No comment on the Protein supplements-I had to pause on the shakes, I'm eating my protein these days!

Oh i'm right there with you. I have a few days here and there that I can drink plain Water, but mostly it makes me want to throw up. I thought it was just me! Thanks for posting this....glad to know I'm not the only one. I mix mine with diet juice 50/50. The V8 splash diet juice is pretty good and doesn't have the artificial sweetner taste (which I'm really sensitive to now for some reason.) Yeah and energy has sucked for the past couple days. I was really good last week and weekend, and even the beginning of this week but then the past couple days its like I'm completely depleted. And I'm getting in my 60-70 grams of Protein just like the NUT said to do, along with liquids and Vitamins. Go figure. Hopefully it will pass.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
