What one piece of advice or wisdom would you give someone considering WLS?

Be prepared to work hard -- this journey will also be hard just like everything else in your life that is valuable. But the difference is, you've got a tool that will never fail you if you give a 100%.

If your thinking about getting any of the WLS, you need to be prepared and know that it's not that easy. Once they take 85% of your stomach out, it's gone! period! I was fortunate enough to have to take the Options class with Kaiser before being referred. I was upset about being forced to take a 12 week class, but very thankful now. I was able to work with a NUT before starting. The only thing I didn't like is that the class was slanted towards the RnY and We weren't informed of the slant! But that's ok, it's over and I've lost over 67 lbs.

Expect the unexpected!!! I felt amazing the first day or two after surgery but after that things went crazy and I spent two weeks in and out of the hospital. I'm finally starting to feel ok again and I've gone a full week without being hospitalized! I have always done great after surgery (I've had 3 previous abdominal surgeries) so I figured this one would be a breeze too.

Just DO IT! It will be the best decision you'll ever make. There may be struggles, but in the end it is all going to be worth it! Research a lot and spend hours on this board before, and after. I LOVE this board and all the wonderful people and their support! Also find a support group you can go to before, it really helped me get a lot of questions answered and I still go and LOVE my group!

If you have unusual symptoms or things just don't feel right,,call your doctor. Although vst is very helpful and has lots of knowledge, don't come to the forums for answers because you could have something serious going on and wasting valuable time.

I would day the first 3-4 months the weight DOES fall off effortlessly but after that you have to work to lose the rest and be careful cause YOU CAN regain! When the scale creeps up a pound I am sure to make good choices until I am back in my comfort place (in he 170's) Its my goal to be 169.9 or less for the rest f my life and I am going to have to work to get these last 8lbs off!!!!

I have not had my surgery yet, but I would say, "Read, read, and read some more....praying through it all. Read the good and the bad, so you don't go into it half/blind.

I would remind those cosidering wls that no two experiences are the same. Kind of like having a baby. Everyone has their own story. Know that you gotta listen to your doctor, listen to your body, and go with the flow :)

Trust your instincts. Only you know if this is right for you or not. It is not a quick fix or a easy fix all solution.

I have not yet to have buyers remorse but although I went into this with eyes wide open, you can not totally prepare yourself for the emotional side of it.

That cheeseburger and fries I can not devour.............. but 4 weeks out tomorrow, I can cross my legs today comfortably and i played tag football with my grandsons today .

Life is great!!!!

That surgery doesn't cure emotional eating. You will absolutely lose the weight but if you don't do the work necessary to cure the emotional eating issues you'll sabotage yourself later.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
