10 Days To Surgery Getting Excared (Excited/scared)

Recommended Posts

Well, I'm only a month out but I've never been happier! I've already gone down 1 pant size and I have had a lot more energy. The surgery itself sucked as well as the first week afterward but that discomfort was a small price to pay to feel and look great for many, many years to come. :)

Try not to stress too much, save that energy for after surgery!

I hope everything goes well. Good luck!

We must be having surgery on the same day (March 9)! I am excited and nervous as well.I have been keeping my self busy by trying to prepare everything for when I get home after surgery. I am traveling to Mexico on the 8th and will be gone for 6 days. I have also been reading all the forums and watching youtube videos every spare minute. I just keep thinking.....skinny by summer.....skinny by summer.....lol. Good luck to you! We will do great!

Bumblebee,

I don't have my sleeve yet either. I understand you being excited and nervous, I'm already feeling that way. I just keep thinking how this surgery is a gift. We will need to use the loss of appetite we will experience after surgery to make healthy changes that will last our entire lives.

I can only imagine how proud we will feel after the first 20 pounds are gone.

Can't wait to hear your surgery tale as you post your story to this site!!

I'm only about 1 month out. I was really worried at week three because I seemed to be holding on to weight...it wasn't MOVING! But luckily, the lovely people on here helped me through it- so you have come to the right place for sure.

Get your fluids! Day 5 post op my legs and feet were so swollen because I wasn't getting enough liquid and walking. Definitely walk too! Pace yourself. I swear I had "buyer's remorse" for about a week after (which I thought I didn't have at all the day right after surgery!) because I was just depressed and felt like crap. But it's surgery and you aren't going to feel like hiking a mile right away!

Pay really close attention to how your stomach feels. I had to work hard at first to tell the difference between my head hunger and real tummy hunger. And I had cravings for the first two weeks when all I could have was liquids, but once you get to add mushy foods, that will pretty much go away. Another nice thing about the cravings, for me anyway, even though I still get them, they aren't as strong and they go away as soon as I eat anything. Even if it's not even close to what I wanted. I LOVE THAT!

Don't be scared...be EXCITED! Beware the 3 week curse. I'm so happy I just got over that!

This is an exciting time...do everything they tell you and you will just watch the weight melt!

I am 28 days out and fell great the day of my surgery i went shopping for the superbowl when my 7 yr. old asked if we could invite her uncle over and i said sure. I wasn't nervous at all in fact i was really happy because it was the day my life was starting over and that was the one thing i was thinking about. I went in at1:10 p.m. and was done by 2:30 so the doctor went to let my wife know she got a little nervous but he let here know everything went great. In fact he was so impressed with my liver that he is now using my pics from the surgery as examples of what the liver should look like. So don't worry to much the only discomfort i had was that i felt like burping but couldn't. after I got to the room I had to wait 6 hrs. before I could get out of bed but when I did it felt so good. I think you'll do great and so will every one else who is going to have there surgery soon. started out 305.6 lb day of surgery was 241 lb. now i am 226 lb. goal is 180-190 then back up to 200 thru weight training.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
