Falling Into The Stall Trap

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I can not believe I am writing about this. I knew those stalls come. I prepared myself for them. I promised myself I would not get discouraged but I just do not know what to think?

I stalled ten days out , on V day. I was down from 228 and dropped as low as 202. I was so excited and could not believe it. I have not been able to get in ALL my fliuds, between 50-60 oz. a day and protien is around 40 but I am striving everyday to hang in there.

Since Valentine's I have gained up and down with 4 lbs. I woke up at 206.4. I was so bummed. I have been walking, sugerfree, full liquids and feel I was doing pretty well. I was concerned that I was not having a BM, so I thought that was the reason, well that is not an issue any longer. I am sure it is normal and yes the stupid scale is in the back of the closet some where not but I just wondering (here I go.....) is this normal?

I need some incouragement.

thanks.

I had a 10 day stall in week 5 and although I was also prepared, it bummed me out totally. It suddenly broke after doing nothing different and I have lost 5 lbs in less than a week. I wish I understood why these happen, but of course they seem to happen to everyone! Hang in there! You will go the other direction soon!

Completely normal. I had a stall at 10 days too. I didn't loose anything for a whole week. Your body is just saying "hey...what's going on?!" Then it will get back on board with you and you will be losing weight again before you know it. Hang in there!! :)

I just got out from my 3-4 week stall...the Fluid intake is the key. It flushes the junk out in my mind so stay with that as much as possible. I upped mine and have lost 5 pounds since Monday....I hadn't lost 5 pounds total the week and a half before...WATER IS KEY

Stalls suck :( You are getting close to the dreaded 3 wk stall though, so maybe it started a little early? I hope it passes soon, but other than increasing the fluids, I can't offer any advise, I seem to be the Queen of Stalls.

Measure yourself and notice if your clothes are getting looser. Those things count more than that darned scale anyway!

I've been "stalled" on the scale since mid-January, except for a 1 pound loss last week. However, I've lost two pants sizes and I can see and feel the muscles in my arms and thighs! I even got a comment from a customer today on how muscular my arms look! (Posting that one in the NSV Shout-outs in a minute!)

Don't let the scale run your life and, at just about 3 weeks out, EVERYONE stalls. Keep drinking your Water, adding in your Protein and do NOT let this get you down. You WILL continue to lose, and at an astounding rate!

Good luck! :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm at a stall myself. I went from 350 at the start of my pre-surgery liquid diet. I lost down to 307 and now have gained to 308 and have stayed there the last few days. I can't wait to have a 2 in the first place of my weight. Stalls bite!!!

i had a 3 week stall that was driving me nuts. First I thought I was eating too much(don't know how that's possible) then I thought I was eating too little. So, I upped my Protein and Water and now the scale has started moving again. I think my body thought I was starving. I guess I should expect this to happen often on this journey. Just don't give up hope!

It happens...but remember this is different from all the diets we have been on, where we stall and say forget it...THIS IS FOR LIFE :)...just keep keeping on and PUT THAT scale AWAY! Remove it from where ever you typically keep it...I literally had to move mine to the closet and bring it out on Saturdays. Believe in yourself and remember you have an awesome tool to help you! Hugs!

If your eating what your supposed too, getting the excersize you need, it's just a matter of time, when your body lets the weight go. We are not in a race to loose weight, but a lifestyle change. Stalls may freak some people out when it happens, but it's going to happen several times thru your weight lose journey wit the sleeve. I tell myself that I'm eating 10% of what I used to eat, I move and keep moving and all of a sudden I loose again. Seems that we get discouraged or impatient if we are not loosing 5 pounds a week. LOL Just stay focused and all will be good.

I agree with sleeve 4 me and roy boy. I had to give my scale to my mom when I hit my first stall at one and a half weeks out!! I just kept doin what I was supposed to-getting as much liquids and Protein in as I could and moving as much as I could. Sure enough when my mom brought my scale back to visit me,lol,I had lost 4 lbs in a week. I will so take that! We'll all get there if we keep the mentality that we got this surgery as a tool and we are gonna work that tool to our advantage!!! I am a firm believer in the sleeve and also that you have to keep those liquids flowing in your body and the protein up for your body to let that pesky fat go!

Hi yecats.. I like ya!! So I'll answer your Quest for information. Here's what you do:

  • Get more fluids in (water!!! 64 oz minimum)
  • Up your protein
  • Throw your scale away, either that or only weigh in 1-2x per week (less if it drives you that nuts)

That's it. I can't see anything else that might be affecting your scale. The 3rd week stall will hit 99% of us... you just have to keep doing all the right things and keep it moving. STAY POSITIVE!!!

Make sure you are taking your Vitamins and eating ENOUGH of the right foods. That is hard for most of us. We were so used to eating too much.

Don't freak out.....unfortunately....you will prob have more than one stall....I found I stalled about 4-5 times for 3 weeks at a time and if you let it it will drive you crazy.

My goal inched it's way here 2 lbs at a time and took 9 months.

Good luck! Hang in there!!!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
