Why can't we have it? Is it so the gum isn't swallowed and possibly get stuck? I quit smoking several years ago and still chew a lot of gum. I think it also helps with food cravings.

Hmmmm....I'll be interested to hear this . The only thing I can think of is the sugar and carbs? I chew sugar free gum sometimes but I'm 7 months out. Not sure if that's bad or not? Can't wait to hear the answers!

I was never told no gum - I will say I find myself chewing a 1/2 or 1/3 of a piece because it seems so sweet. I have always chewed sugar free gum though too.

I don't remember my manual mentioning no gum. I wonder why also.

Kaiser's option class told us absolutely no gum because if we swallow it, it could block a passage in our pouch. Now Kaiser tended to slant everything towards the RnY procedure. So maybe it doesn't count for us sleevers? I'll email the NUT and ask her directly. ;)

Thats the only thing my dr said to never do again. He said if you swallow it that it could cause a blockage.

What about excess air from chewing something tells me that is part of the issue also, but I can't recall for certain. Just definitely remember no gum.

I chew SF gum all the time - no problems! It helps keep my mouth busy in between meals :) Just be careful with it...

They told us it was because you swallow too much air and it causes excess gas/burping/pooting, you know the whole get up. They also told us no straws or cokes ever again because of the same. But this is not set in stone. If you cruise this site enough, you'll find fifty different surgeons with fifty different opinions. I'm sure that effects of many things vary wildly from person to person. What adult swallows gum by accident anyway? I mean, come on really. I never could even swallow it on purpose, even when caught by the teacher..hehe

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
