Scared This Isnt Gonna Work

Recommended Posts

I know that sounds silly but I am 10 days out and can eat so easily. I mean three purred meal, Protein Shakes Water and Snacks. How is that possible. Maybe he didn't make me small enough? No one else seems to be talking about how much they can eat and drink. Only how much they can't. Ugh!!

There are like a million posts about this. I was able to eat "a lot" initially, and still eat more than many. Log your foods and you are probably under 800 calories! Not a lot at all. You will feel restriction once you start eating dense Protein (chicken, pork etc). It will be alright. :-)

What you are eating is mushy and mushy won't make you feel the restriction. Give it some time, you are doing fine!

Is purade meaning full liquids to you or food in the blender? Just curious because I am on full liquids; Soups, pro shakes , ect. and I get full but it all goes down pretty well. I am 11 days out.

I sooooo remember that fear ... but you will soon learn that you are losing & losing a lot. (For me, I was just SURE I would be the one where VSG would fail. But, I made it to goal!!!!)

The posters above are correct ... your stomach is healing, you are eating "mushy" food and you won't feel the high level of restriction yet. Just wait until you have meat - then you will feel it!

Keep your chin up ... Ask your questions ... And stay on track. YOU WILL SUCCEED!

I am 5 days post op and can eat 5-7 tbl spoons of Jello with ease along with about 10oz of broth in about 20 minutes. The docs told me that liquids go down easy and to watch the calories and carbs in what I am drinking. I have not felt restriction really and I am guessing it is because I have not put anything substantial in my new sleeve.

I am on the verge of strangling my husband because he keeps asking me if I am supposed to be able to eat that much. I know he is concerned due to me being a failed band baby and all the fears I am having of being "THE ONE" that doesnt succeed with my sleeve.

Has anyone else had a spouse that was constantly watching them? Bless his heart, if he doesnt stop analyzing me, I am going to stab him with my spoon!!!!! :) LOL

My husband still does & I am over 2 years out. He has a heart of gold, but sometimes I have had those same feelings. I like the spoon idea!

I predict that, in a few days, you'll be posting about how you can't eat much of anything. Dense Protein fills me up SO much faster than mushies ever did! I ordered a steak for lunch today and even I was astounded at how little I could eat!!!

I totally agree with everyone else... I've been on solids for about a week and I really felt my restriction for the first time last night when I went out for sushi. Two pieces of sashimi minus the rice and I was done for! You'll get there, just enjoy the way things are going now, you'll be complaining soon enough ;-)

Beginning of week 4 post-op & I too am scared that I can eat too much.. I have been on soft solids (mushies) for about a week now. But most concerning is my wt loss stall. The 1st week Post-op I lost 6 lbs, wk 2 -4 lbs. Week 3...just barely 1 lb. I have started exercising & bought some leg/ankle weights for strength training, but this early slow down of wt loss really scares me!! I didn't go through all of this to stall out after -11 lbs.

Relax and wait for mushies. We all worry about this until we're faced with eating an entire scrambled egg and it takes two hours! Oh, those dense Proteins are HARD in the beginning. But liquids run right on through, even if we have to sip them all day long.

You'll be fine. Stick to the plan and don't worry.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
