How Much Did You Eat At Two Months Out?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I'm about two months out of my surgery and I feel like I can eat a lot. A Typical day will be Breakfast which consists of maybe an egg, a slice of ham and maybe an ounce of cheese. For lunch I'll usually have maybe a Protein shake, and for supper i'll have a small piece of chicken with some mashed up broccoli and laughing cow cheese. I also snack throughout the day with little bites of Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, or maybe a slice of cheese. I kind of feel like I've healed faster then a few people, which has enabled me to eat more, and I also find that I get quite hungry shortly after I eat, even now after I've moved into more solid foods. Is this normal?

Hi ATeam, sometimes I feel the same way. Should I be able to eat this much at 8 weeks out? My cousin had bypass the same day as I had my VSG and she is not able to eat any where near what I'm able to eat. I'm still losing weight at a nice pace so I'm not overly worried about it, but I worry if I can eat this much now- how much will I be able to eat in the future?

RnY and Sleeves are very different stomachs. The GB stomach is the size of 2 grapes... the newly sleeved stomach is much larger than that. She will catch up as far as how much she can eat. Dare I say it can even get larger. I've seen some RnYers who are years out and at social gatherings they are able to put away what to me looks like quite a bit. Almost as much as other normal folks eat!! bread and all... I don't think I'll ever have a capacity like that. I'm maxed out for sure, and my max is about 6 oz.

At 2 months out I was eating about one egg and maybe one bite of something else. Not too much different than what I see you two mention. I think I'm doing really good for being almost 17 months out.

:) HTH

At 8 weeks out I was eating 500 calories a day. I would strive to get in my 60 grams of Protein a day. I counted everything I put in my mouth - grams of fat, carbs, and Protein.< /p>

I had 3 meals and 2 Snacks per day. (one mid-morning - one mid afternoon)

Let me ask you some questions

You aren't drinking while you eat are you? Are you waiting 30 minutes after you eat before you drink? If you eat when you drink, you can eat more than you should - and you won't get your full signal. The liquids cause the sphincter at the bottom of your sleeve to open up and release your food into your intestions earlier than it should be.

Are you eating your alloted amount of protein first at the meal prior to anything else? Are you chewing everything well, and stretching what you eat out to last 20 minutes? You won't fill satisfied until you've been eating 20 minutes.

Have you identified what your full signal is? When you get the full signal, do you stop eating?

The goal is to eat the amount we are supposed to and stop as soon as we are full. Everyone's full signal isn't the same. If you haven't identified what yours is, you need to do that.

I look forward to hearing your answers - then the "oldsters" on this site can help you more with what to do.

Thanks for the answers guys!

I am definitely not eating and drinking at the same time, nor am I drinking before or after meals working the restricted time frame. I am getting all my Water in, and am going for my Protein first.

I wait to drinks Water after eating, and I generally feel that that's when the hunger starts. Maybe I need to wait longer than 30 minutes?

I don't think the hunger is coming from acid. I was taking a ppi early on, and it didn't really help the hunger feeling. Maybe I'll give it another try.

I also think the hunger is a mental thing as well. I find that during the day I generally do not feel hungry, but when I am home for the evening, the hunger starts. Ugh! It's so hard, because it could be so easy to just graze all evening.

I'm 6 weeks out.. You posts and the responses just opened my eyes to a few things.. I've been so preoccupied w/ what I put in my mouth, I never take the time to enjoy my food anymore.. Pre-sleeve, I was definitely a foodie and enjoyed savoring flavors, textures, etc. Since transitioning to regular food, I've been so uptight about counting calories, carbs, fat and protein... that I rarely dine, I just eat and count... I need to be mindful of what I'm eating (I have all the right foods in my house) and focus more on enjoying my dining experience.. 20 minute meals... YES!!! Thanks guys!!

I'm one month out, and moved to mushies and "real food" sooner as well. I'm averaging about 1,100 calories a day now. And I eat portions that resemble yours. If there is one thing I've learned from reading posts here it's that everyone is quite different. For example, I RARELY have a day when I'm in the 400-800 cal. range. I'm hungry every 2-3 hours just like pre-op. The only dif now is that it takes less for me to feel satisfied.

If it's helpful, here are some examples of what I might have for meals or Snacks...

Meals:

- 2 eggs (boiled or scrambled with a bit of cheese)

- 2 oz. turkey + 1 oz. cheese on "mini thin" sandwich thin rounds

- 1 Campbell's Soup at Hand w/protein added

- 1 slice pepperoni pizza

Snacks:

- Container of Greek yogurt

- 1 oz. potato chips (yes, once a week or so still a "guilty pleasure"!

- banana or orange

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
