January 2012 Sleevers!

Rather than keeping the old January (2011) thread resurrected, I thought it was about time to start a 2012 thread.

I'm scheduled for January 23, 2012, and just got my official insurance approval yesterday.

I am absolutely PUMPED about this surgery. I can't wait... I'm anticipating crazy nerves as it draws nearer, but for now, I'll ride the wave of excitement, thank you very much. biggrin.gif

  • I'm done!!! I'm sleeved!! It was almost totally painless! Tomorrow I will probably be a little sore. Not taking any pain medications and I've been out of surgery for 4 hours now. Good luck everyone el

Anyone start their period? Or I am the only one. Yea, what fun this is. It hasn't even been a week since surgery. I was hoping to get over the initial pain before I had to do acrobatics for a tampon.

Yes, I've been in pretty good spirits up until this morning and right now I'm cranky.

I'm actually very irregular but i just had my surgery on the 18th and i got my period two days ago :(

Doctor said it would happen since the weight loss helps so i wasn't surprised. I just hate dealing with two different kinds of discomfort at the same time!!!! But oh, well!!!

*the guys in this conversation are probably cringing right about now* lol

I had practically no pain with my surgery, which is uncommon for me, because surgeries in the past I was a wimp. I started driving after 2 days because I was not on any pain medication. My doctor told me I could drive as long as I was not taking any pain medication.

Hooray, finally got my WL ticker working!!

I had trouble with mine too, wasn't sure which code to use, took a while but got it!

DEBSII,

I did, a few day after I was home i started too! I was about a week in a half early. So I'm guessing surgery brought it on.

I was sleeved January 17, 2012. I'm during great :seeya: . I've been walking around since I came out of recovery. My 1st stop was to the restroom. Then I starting walking up and down the halls. I was released on the 18th around 6:30 pm . It's day 13 and I've been shopping a few times, Took my son to his doctor's appt, Volunteered with Keep Dekalb beautiful cleaning up our school road, Went to a DWL appt with a friend. I'm allowed to drive starting tomorrow and I can't wait!! Being stuck in this house is hard. I down 19lbs. The 1st week I was losing 2lbs a day and the second week about a 1lbs a day :Banane23: . Some of my shoes are too big now. I'm ready for for soft food..........Really tried of the liquid diet. I stop using chicken broth and move over to chicken noodle Soup, tomato soup, potato soup. I do get dry mouth alot and some time Water and crystal light is just not enough. I love being sleeved :001_wub: !

YAY! Sounds like you're doing great! I am three weeks out today and I still have a very dry mouth, especially throughout the night. I have to sip frequently. I go to soft foods tomorrow - words can't express how excited I am! :Banane09: Good luck during your recovery!

I've posted on a couple of other threads about this. Mine came 1 week after surgery and it was the period from HELL! :mad2: I wouldn't have wished that one on my worst enemy!

Full liquids are sooo yummy!

My faves, so far, are:

half a can Fat free broccoli/cheese soup, made with Water, blended with a slice or 2 of fat free cheese (to raise the protein)

half a can of fat free cream of celery, made with water, blended with a half a can of chunk white tuna.

These take me an hour to eat, stuff kinda trickles slowly into my tummy, and leave me quite full and satisfied.

Debs you are way lucky. I tried doing that and my dr called me out saying that was purée not full liquid :( no cream soups for me or blending anything in them. Oh and they made me quit after 30 minutes of eating. Thank goodness I'm on purée now

Mel, I think we are the same person lol. I'm the same as u with the Lortab and driving and starting mt period lol... Like surgery twins :)

Yeah, you are lucky, my doctor will not let me do any creamed or blend stuff in either. I was tempted but my new sleeve can be sensitive!

I can't eat that stuff either, yet! :( You're lucky Debs!!

Tlmiller, I know!!!! everyone kept telling me that they hardly drank it and that they didn't need it after surgery. NOT ME!!! I'm a wimp and my pain tolerance is VERY low! LOL I mean, they gave us that medicine for a reason, right?? lol

I just don't want to have my period now!! why can't it just stay irregular!! LOL j/k!! Hopefully i get rid of PCOS i have.

Yay for my surgery twin!!!! :cornut:

My doc calls full liquid, protein shakes, soups, greek yogurt, sf pudding as long as I add protein (need 60-70gm/day) and as long as there are no pieces. What does your doc allow on the full liquid phase?

Saw my nurse practioner and dietican (sp) yesterday. I can have protein shakes and smoothies until Friday then I can move on to low fat yougurt. low fat strained cream soups and skim milk. It is interesting what each doctor allows for each phase of recovery.

So I'm trying to gauge if what I'm feeling is normal, but my left side where I assume that my stomach is is still very tender and if I move in the wrong direction I feel like my insides are being ripped. If I'm sitting it's not bad at all. Walking is a little painful, but not overly so, but no bending over, no stretching my left arm. My right side, if it wasn't for the incisions, I wouldn't even know I had them. I don't feel them at all.
