How Fast Did The Weight Come Off At First?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I've read about the stalls (especially the third week) but for those of you who have lost a lot weight, what was it like early on for you? I think my expectations were that I had so much to lose and was eating so bad before surgery that perhaps I wouldn't have a stall for awhile and lose 7-8 lbs a week for the first 6-8 weeks. Maybe my expectations were too high but when you have 220 lbs to lose the quicker the better.

Here has been my weight loss per week over the last 6 weeks. As you can see I had a great pre-op week and first week after surgery but the last two weeks things have really slowed down. I know better than to ask for a pity party on here so what I'm really looking for is insight from someone who has lost 200lbs with the sleeve or well on their way to losing 200 lbs how long it took that first 100 lbs to come off. Hopefully I'll be on here in 2-3 months reporting that the first 100 is gone and on to the second 100. Thanks!

You've lost 22 pounds since surgery! That's great!! I was sleeved August 30 and have lost 62 pounds. Actually, I lost 13 pounds pre-op and I've lost 49 pounds since surgery, which is 3 months and 1 week, or an average of 4 pounds a week. I have 170-180 pounds to lose total, so I understand wanting to see it drop off quickly. But, I'm thrilled with what I have lost and trying to be patient for the rest of it. At least I KNOW I can get to goal if I keep doing what I'm supposed to do. :)

Good luck! You're doing great!!

I have lost 20lbs since surgery 3 weeks ago! I'd sure have loved for it to be more, but it did take almost a week to rid myself of the weight (water) I gained while in the hospital and going through surgery. So we are right about in the same boat, I'm thinking we're moving along just fine!

Morning of my surgery I was 267.5. When I weighed myself Friday evening after I came home, I was 259.5 (!). Today (following Wednesday) I was 249.5. Down 18 lbs in the first week.

I'm pretty sure I'm through my Water weight now and into actual fat loss because my emotions have been roller coastering :-)

Well my goal was to lose around 150 pounds, so I'm not at the 200+ level... but I will say that my weight loss has been steady around 3 lbs a week (average). I am hoping to keep this up! I occasionally "stall" but then it seems to even out with a larger drop the next week or so.

Good luck!

In the beginning my weight flew off, in the first 2 weeks 20lbs, then at my 7 week appt, i had lost 53lbs, then at 1 year i had lost 140 lbs and then it all came to a screeching halt. I stalled for 7 months! then it moved for another 10 lbs and now i'm where i think i'll be until something drastic happens like an illness or something to make me lose more weight. but i reached the doctors goal and i'm happy with that. . .

Thanks everyone for the replies! I am glad to report that the past 3 days I've lost a lb a day so things are moving along again. I am still having a hard time getting all my Protein and fluids in to the degree I would like. I'm averaging about 65-70 oz liquid and about 65 grams of Protein. I am keeping my carbs below 30-40 daily which has been harder on the soft food stage. Once I add meat in next week I can have a lot more protein options and hopefully that will help.

How are you all doing food wise? Do you find that higher liquid/protein/lower carb helps with the weight loss?

It seems I go through spurts of a pound a day then a gain of a pound or two with stall. The stalls last 3-9 days. Of course your mileage will vary! bigear.gif

Everyone loses differently as you can see. Starting my second month, I stalled about 3-4 weeks every month and then dropped several pounds -- more during the first 8 or so months, less after that. I think after the first and second month it was about 12 pounds a month, then 10, then 8, the 5-6, and so on. That has been a really frustrating way to lose. Now after almost 18 months out, I'm losing really slowly, but I'm still losing. I'm still looking to lose over 200 pounds. Just going to take me a while. I'm OK with that. I already feel so much better. Everyone is different, though, and you'll find people who consistently lose, no stalls, and people who lose much faster than I have. Men typically lose more quickly than women.

My weight loss has slowed, but I am still losing. I think it helps me lose more when I do a better job of getting my Water intake in. I am still trying to figure this all out though. I have also started exercising regularly, which makes it easy to get the water in plus has other bonuses like more toned body, etc.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
