So confused!!!

Recommended Posts

How do you find an exerise that you can enjoy and stick to? I'm so confused I know I need to exercise but I just can't seem to find a starting point. I'm almost 4 months out and have lost 52 pounds without exercise nut I know the key to up my loss and maintain once I reach it is exercise! I work all day have kids activities in the evening I know that's no excuse I wasted 1800.00 on a personal trainer in 2010 before my surgery only to loss 26 pounds them gain it bad and more! I have several friends and family that live within miles of me but no one seems to want to get on an exercise buddy system! So I'm just going to have to go it alone! But I don't know where to start should I go back to the gym membership and do the free classes that range from cardio to strength training or should I use some of the many exercise options I have at home from wii fitness to boxing??? Please help me get motivated!

I started with walking. Keep it simple. I walk at lunch or after work...sometimes if I have those, "wide awake" at 5:00 a.m. moments, I'll get up and go for a walk.

My doctor told me years ago that even if you walk for 10 minutes and get your heartrate up...that's doing some good. He even suggested I do that 2x day, then 3 if that's all I could fit in.

Anyway, that was my starting point. Now I use the free aerobic / dance stuff that's offered through my cable provider "on demand"...I strength train 3 days per week...I'm considering a community aqua zumba class... There are opportunites out there. If you can't find any; a school district will often have community enrichment classes offered, so theres a good place to inquire.

good luck. I think you'll find that you enjoy a little peace and the feeling of accomplishment you get from walking!

Thanks SeattleSue, I'm in Texas and the weather is finally starting to cool down enough to tolerate a nice walk so maybe that will be my starting point. :)

At my heaviest weights in life, my bicycle and my Wii were always my most toelrable go to options for exercise. I love using Wii Active, I got amazing results but I wouldn't recommend it until you have a little stamina for cardio. Biking is a liberating low impact, super cardio exercise and I have a blast on my bicycle. I rode with my kids so I killed many birds with one stone. My grisl got quality time with me, got exercise, had a blast riding around town as I won't let them go alone or unsupervised, and I got a good workout in! My hubby even has a bike now. I also liked taking them to local state parks and hit the hiling trails. Hiking burns crazy calories. When my kids were babies and very young, the Wii was just the simplest most convenient way as well as DVD', but I found it was easier to go at my own pace with Wii than it was with DVD. Good luck. You will FEEL so much better once you commit. Give yourseld 2 weeks before you make your mind up about an activity, too. Exercise boosts serotonin levels thus the feel-good feelings. So does sunshine, so if you workout outdoors, double the boost! I think this is why I like hiking and biking and golf so much. Variety is also key for me!

I live in FL and the same thing is happening here! It is finally cool enough to start walking... and that is going to be my exercise starting point as well.

Well my husband and I decided to go buy bikes yesterday. And I have to say I think I've found an exercise I really enjoyed doing. We rode with the kids for over an hour it was so fun! I'm trying to get dinner done now so we can head out for another ride! Thanks for all the suggestions.

I agree with others here. Walking is the easiest and very pleasant. You can go faster when you feel strong and just take it easy if it's an off day. Also, for me, bringing music along makes it really fun. Anything with music! :-) Even just dancing at home if the weather does not allow you to be outside burns quite a bit of calories and is alot of fun, especially if you do it with kids! Glad you are enjoying your bike!!!!! Have fun!

Another thing you can do too if the weather isn't permitting you ride your bike is on the WII FIT there is a thing called free step where you step up and down off the wii fit board and can watch t.v. at the same time because you don't have to follow the screeen. I do that when I can't make it to the gym to swim or ride my bike.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
