How is weight loss for people over 50?

Recommended Posts

Since this last fill it's very tricky what will work and what will not. I have pbed really badly on fish, but most of the time it works well.

Had a bad experience tonight. Went to dinner with some girlfriends who chose a Thai restaurant. I knew there wasn't one thing on that menu that I could eat. None of them know about the band. I spent some time in the bathroom sliming, but luckily didn't throw up. I won't be going for Thai food anymore either.

Wow! Total bummer about the Thai food. :omg: I am crazee about Thai cuisine. :hungry:

I see that a few of you have been asking me for the latest news about the facelift. Thank you all for your interest and concern. I am starting to look much better and can actually leave the house now without attracting attention. My black eyes are almost gone and the swelling in that area is going down. My neck and jawline are looking pretty fabulous. I am still a little swollen around the mouth area and my mouth still doesn't work right; he gave me lips and did some of the stitching of my face lift inside my mouth. This means that it is a real ugly experience watching me eat or drink. I am only marginally more competant at this than a two year old. :phanvan

They have removed all the stitches and staples from my head and around my ears but I am very scabby. I have orders not to pick as this will lead to scars but this is difficult for me to do. This has also interfered with me upgrading my dye job. My hair looks a little peculiar as a result. I guess it is hats for Green, eh. My face still hurts a bit and it definitely feels like it doesn't belong to me, a result of the severed nerves, I suppose.

My husband is really pleased with the results of this surgery and that of the lapband which I had last Sept. Man, do I ever look different now! I went from a size 18W to a 12P or a 10R and from a 3X to an XL. And now I have a smooth and jowel free face, one with lips and cheekbones. I still need my tweezers and my reading glasses, though. I am, afterall, 58 years old. Only the surface has changed! :tired It has been an interesting experience to have had the experience of buying my way into the zone of cute. (Actually I couldn't have done any of this had I not inherited some money.)

As many of you may know, I have been defilled for awhile (since late July, I think) thanks to the worst case of acid reflux. I haven't gained any weight since my defill but I haven't lost any either. I do miss being filled, however. A filled band gave me confidence that I wouldn't turn back into what I was. This is one of my nightmares. :Banane10: And may be the reason why I have saved my favourite fat clothes.

Great NSV...... I was out to lunch with some friends today and when I went to pay my bill, I pulled out my driver's license. Guess what?? The weight is wrong!! But now its wrong in the right direction!! I'm almost 20 lb LESS than what it says!!

:whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo::whoo:

That's Great Phyl - :clap2: - I guess it isn't a good thing that my drivers license say i weigh 130 :Banane10: Cuz I won't ever be back there again even with the band - Well i could be if that were my goal - but it isn't - I want to get to at least 170 - then may go for 150... But right now 170 is my goal..

Denise - Sorry about your sliming are you maybe just a tad too tight?

Denise822 - I had trouble with thai food too. Especially the spring rolls (not fried). I do better with meat in a sauce. No rice or large chunks of anything.

It was a sorry surprise, because I love those tastes. I had trouble with Thai shrimp and scallops just this week. I need to cut my fish up really small and chew, chew, chew....

Throwing up isn't as bad as having a mouthful of slime and pain in the chest.

Hugs to all of you,

Michelle

Michelle - How are you doing??? How's the stress with your Mom & Audit going??

We were babysitting our three youngest grandchildren this afternoon and evening. A little before bedtime, Grandpa took them in to the kitchen for a snack of milk and cookies.... home made chocolate chip cookies!! So he brings me one little tidbit of a cookie. It wasn't even enough to call a "bite" of a cookie. I savored it for a few minutes and then I hollered in to the kitchen, "Hey! Couldn't I have like maybe one HALF of a cookie???" Before my DH could answer, our 5 yr old granddaughter chimed in with "Don't you know you're not supposed to have any sweets??!! You're trying to lose FAT!" My DH came back in the living room, trying hard to suppress his laughter, and gave me another nibble of a cookie!

Phyl - out of the mouths of babes - when my gs was 5 i told him know he couldn't have a toy right before xmas - and he kept bugging and i still told him know and asked him why he kept bugging me and he said "It's not my fault cuz you spoiled me"

Green - it good to hear that you are doing better... and that you haven't gained any weight - You should take your fav fat clothes to a taylor and have them cut down to fit you now... That's what i plan to do for a few items that i love.

I am beginning to think I do need to have some out. I went to lunch a little bit ago and ordered Soup and started sliming on soup. That is not a good thing.

Sounds like you are too tight. This is not a good thing.

It's weird because I can have days where I eat meals without a problem. I have an appt. scheduled next week with my surgeon. I will talk to him about it then. I am going to stay on liquids for awhile. I think something has gotten me irritated in there.

Good idea - I don't know what is worst no restriction or too much - I wish that remote control band was here - then it wouldn't be so hard to find our sweet spot

Wow Green sounds like you're definitely on the mend. I didn't know that sometimes they stitch inside your mouth for glamour girl surgery. This is all temporary and you'll be the envy of us all! Glad you're feeling better 'cause one day they'll take your drugs away and you'll have to rely on your good looks to get you through the day.

green - do you think you might share a picture, even better, a before and after one???? Just nosy in Denver.

Well ladies - I am off to Mexico for two wonderful weeks. Please wish me sunshine and great times.

i am staying at a condo so I will be able to control the food better, but I love those marguaritas. Lots of walking in the sand and will try snorkeling if the Water is clear.

Hugs all,

Michelle

yaya

i'M THE SAME AGE YOU ARE. The next few years are so important health wise. I'd find a way to get the money (beg, borrow or steal) so you can have that surgery now. In MX the costs is $7,500. I went to Dr. Gonzales (I think he is the best).

NM Sunshine: I'm with you, dude, BURN THE FAT CLOTHES IMMEDIATELY!

I'm kind of enjoying having my clothes feel baggy right now. I've given up a few things, but keeping the ones that aren't yet falling off for a little while longer.

GREEN :omg:

BURN THE FAT CLOTHES IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!

I am having trouble with my fatty chick clothes. This would be because they are linen. The other crap I have, more or less, junked although I was wearing a fave pair of size 16 cotton pants and they actually fell off me mid-stride. I left 'em on the floor and stalked about in my underpants and my swollen and scabby and bruised face. I am glad I was alone at the time. The experience could have been weird for any watcher. I was kind of flabberghasted when the size 16 pants fell off me. I had bought 'em some years ago and was thrilled that I could actually fit into them. Then there came a day when I couldn't because they were too petite. And now they are not.

This is oh so weird to deal with and of course I keep figuring that I will go to bed my current small size and will wake up my old size. My panic over this is aggravated by the fact that I am currently unfilled.

To tell you the truth, I really don't have any clear notion as to what size I am or how I look to others. I did spend many months go over to fat grrls department in my favourite shops only to find myself chased away by the saleshelp.

"But, but, I like my clothes baggy, eh," I would say. This weight loss biz is obviously very, very complicated.

And to top things off, I got old lady skin on my thighs and upper arms and they weren't that fat! Most of my weight went onto my torso and so I looked like a spider, big in the body but normal in the arms and legs. So where did the funny skin come from???? Oh, ergh!

And, even though I have always had boney hands and feet I now have to get my rings resized! This is F------g weird. (I think Green is having a melt-down.)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
