I guess I'm at a stall

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow I will be 3 weeks out from getting my sleeve. I lost 20lbs on my pre-op diet and 11 lbs since my surgery. The past two weeks I have stayed the same weight and I don't understand. So actually I stalled only 1 week out from surgery. Is there something wrong with me? Has anyone else have this happen? I hear about stalls at 3 weeks but I've never heard of someone stalling after just 1 week from surgery. Is there anything I can do to jumpstart me back into losing? I'm getting very discouraged and I don't like feeling this way.

I wish I could help. Unfortunately, I am 2 weeks post surgery and the last 3 days have seen no movement on the scale. I am trying to increase my fluids, Protein & walking to see if that will help. But, I am definitely feeling discouraged. I lost 12 lbs on the pre-op diet and 16 since surgery.

I try to get my 60 grams of Protein & fluids in each day but know that I am not always successful. My left side has been really pulling so I had not been walking as much. Started walking again this past Tuesday and trying to get 1/4 mile in every 2 hours or so.

Hopefully someone will respond that can help both of us. If nothing else, you now know you are not alone.

just try getting in the fluids! you'l be ok. your body is in shock, and replacing all of your fat stores with Water. when it realizes that you arent starving it will start to drop. fear not. you will get there.

I'm having some of the same issues.

Pre op, I lost 32lbs

I was sleeved on 8/25, the first week lost 9lbs. But my loss has slowed to a crawl, only losing 3 lbs in the last 3 weeks.

I know it's not truly a stall as I am losing but based on the calories in, it's frustrating to see my loses slow to a crawl.

It's hard to wrap my head around how I could lose more weight on a consistent basis prior to my sleeve.

In the end, the weight will have to come off, right ;) ?

I am still on full liquids phase and move to mushies next Tuesday, 9/27.

I am trying to track my fluids/protein today instead of guesstimating the way I have been. Maybe I haven't been getting in as many as I thought.

Thanks for everyone's encouragement. I appreciate each one of you.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I don't feel so alone now. I think I'm not quite getting all my fluids in so that may be some of it. Just nice to hear your words of encouragement and knowing I'm not the only one going through this. It just amazes me that I am not eating enough to keep a bird alive and not losing. :o

Yes!!! The same thing happened to me then suddenly this week I've lost 6 pounds in 5 days. As frustrating as it is, just try to be ok with it.

Thanks for the question and replies. I was sleeved on 9/7 and lost 13 lbs. pre-op and 14 lbs in a little over a week, and basically haven't lost in a week. Glad to see that I am not alone, and will start journaling my Water and Protein. So thankful for this site and the support!

Some people stall earlier than others, particularly if they have lost weight with pre-op diets. Part of what is happening is that you have now used up your readily available stores of carbs and Protein, which burn at a rate of around 2000 calories per pound, and are now finally shifting to burning your fat, which burns at around 3600 calories per pound, so when you do start losing again, it will probably be at a somewhat slower rate scale weight loss, but now it will be fat. which is the whole idea here. Sometimes it takes a while for the word to get to your brain that you need to start tapping that fat savings account, and for it to give your body permission to do so - those are reserves to be saved for some serious famine and it can take some time for your brain to work out that you are serious about using that up! It's just one of the variations between all of us - some will stall for just a couple of days while others will stall for a couple weeks or more - it's hard to figure out sometimes.

There will be more stalls along the way, too - it's just the natural progression that more resembles stairsteps than a ramp. As long as you are maintaining that large calorie deficit, you can't help but lose it.

I am also on week 3 since surgery and I'm also on stall. Been on it for almost 2weeks now. My weight goes up 3 lbs in the morning but lose those 3 lbs at the end if the day. scale does not more anymore. I feel like the scale has become my enemy so I dont really weight myself everyday like I used to. Just every Friday. I have noticed some inches coming off even if my weight is the same. Dont get discouraged! Just hang in there! Our journey is not going to be easy. We can only try and let the rest work itself. What Rick stated makes so much sense. We are all here for the same reason but together we can do it :)

Heather, girl, your 6 pounds just gave me hope!

I was at the dr yesterday and according to his scale, I have only lost 1 lb in the last three weeks. WTF???

Oh well, off to drink some Water...maybe that will help

Yes!!! The same thing happened to me then suddenly this week I've lost 6 pounds in 5 days. As frustrating as it is, just try to be ok with it.

I'm so glad I found this thread. I was sleeved on 8/31. I lost 20 pounds pre-op and 10 pounds post-op. Beginning the 2nd week i stopped losing and actually have gained 3-4 pounds. I am eating soft foods and sometimes feel like I'm eating way too much - although it's really only a small amount at each meal. I still have trouble getting all of my liquids in. Today I filled a 64 oz container with Water and put it in the fridge and am determined to drink it all.

Before I was sleeved, I would read posts about stalls and think, "Oh there's no way I'm gonna let a stall get to me if it happens to me." Well I was wrong!!! It's making me crazy! I know I will have to start losing weight again since I'm eating so few calories, but I am ready for it to start NOW!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
