Approved today...so why am I freaking out??

Recommended Posts

So have worked soooo hard to get approved and after many hours of calls and appeals I got a surprise call today. Initially, so excited....an hour later totally freaked out and questioning it (like watch out for what you wish for). IS THIS NORMAL? Now how to do I manage all these changing emotions until the surgery? HELP

I too just got the news I was approved and am having a flood of emotions. I would assume this is a normal response to a life changing decision we have made. I am rationalizing this by telling myself that this is only a tool to reach my goal and has to be used in the most responsible manner. My concern is keeping the weight off. I have to keep telling myself that this is the beginning of the rest of my life and if I am serious about this then it begins NOW. We can do this! Keep your eyes on the prize and concentrate on changing what you can NOW! Focus on the present and what you have to do to prepare for the initial surgery. That is what I am doing. Hope this helps...

It could be because it is real now. You have done everything you need to prepare and you have the final go ahead. Before it was still iffy, so it didn't feel real. Of course you are freaking out a bit, you just made one of the biggest life choices you ever will. In my opinion that was one of the best choices you ever could have made. Now the reality is setting in. Just remind yourself of all the reasons you chose this to begin with. For now I would say take a deep breath, and put it behind you. Have a good nights sleep and then after a day or two go back to thinking about it. I bet you will feel a lot calmer and more at peace with your decision.

And congrats by the way, on your approval!

Yes, it is normal. I used to drive myself crazy thinking about how most of my stomach was going to be cut out. Not to mention the stress a few friends added on saying they thought I was out of my mind. I finally realized that I was so unhappy being huge. I just was so tired of feeling horrible and not fitting into my clothes. I just knew that being morbidly obese wasn't "me". I got real with myself (along with the support of some GREAT people here) and decided the sleeve was the right choice for me. I am so glad I now have my sleeve. I finally feel like myself. I hope to be at goal by my one year post op mark. I feel so good and I couldn't be happier. YOU ARE GOING TO DO GREAT! Don't worry too much! : )

I think it is completely normal. I wasn't nervous at all before my surgery date was set. When they called and told me the date, it was less than three weeks out and that scared the heck out of me. It seems like it should be a relief, but for me, it was when the fear of failure kicked in. I am a worrier by nature, and I just kept thinking of the negatives. I still struggle with that, but I try to turn it around and think of the positives, like how I will be able to run and play with my daughter and shop for clothes in the "regular" section of the store. I think that keeping my eye on the prize has definitely helped calm my nerves.

You will be fine. Heck, you will be better than fine. You can do this.

Completely normal. You will see your emotions fluctuate up until your surgery date and for the few weeks after.

Just keep telling yourself, you have done your research and this is necessary to keep the weight off permanently and live a healthier life for you and your family.

Congratulations!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
