Weight Gained Since Having Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

I know how hard it is and my worst nightmare is to gain anymore weight.

I've taken up power walking and running to help with further weight loss. I really love it except for the pain I get on my knees and hip. For that I started doing Yoga and it seems to be helping.

I try to stay motivated by thinking about how I was before my sleeve. It works.

I did the pouch test for the first time and oh my Lord IT WORKS!!! It helped me kick the snacking to the curb even during tom. And proves sleevie still works just like it did 5 years ago when I first got him :). It's a mini miracle for us for sure!!! I'm back down to 169. And hope to be back to my personal goal by the end of the year.

hugs!!!!

Ok I just realized I'm 18.2 lbs over weight now versus being back at obese. Barely but still I will take it and run yay!

My personal goal is just to lose 4-10 more lbs and try to maintain that :). That would be awesome.

Best wishes to all.

I've gained all my weight back????

My lowest was 190 and I am now 265. I just started carb cycling today a coworker did it and she lost 60lbs. I tried doing the pouch test but wouldn't stick to it. I did the first two days and couldn't figure what to eat on the third day.

What is carb cycling?

I'd like to do the pouch test but I can't while I am trying to get my bone to graft.

Sleeve!!! So nice to see you again! I'm up a little too.....have done the pouch test twice and both time found it to be really good for a few pounds off and a fresh start. I focused on the thick hearty Soups and that helped a lot to stay on track. Lost 8 pounds both times. Now, to just stay on track afterwords!

I'm at my 2 year mark. I reached my goal and have maintained it for about a year. Going up and down a pound or so.

But over the past two months I've been gaining a half pound here and there and am now up 5 pounds. My head says DANGER DANGER you're on a slippery slope. But I'm having a hard time stopping the snacking. It's not bad stuff. Just too much yogurt or too much Cereal, etc. My willpower has disappeared.

Thanks for the 5 day pouch test idea. Back to basics. I want to nip this before the holidays get here otherwise the Cookies will kill me.

Good luck all. It's a constant struggle.

B

I am 2 1/2 years post op and I have gained 30 lbs in the last year. My mom has been sick, she's home with hospice and slowly dying. I struggle with anemia and get too short of breath with exercise. I will be starting Iron infusions soon. So yes, you CAN gain weight if you don't exercise and eat right. Although I have stayed away from bread and Pasta, I do not focus on fluids and Protein, AND I stress eat on junk food like chips at night.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
