To the person who asked if we could eat normal after vsg I can tell you that eating is mostly normal as the months go by. I have tried eating everything and its ok just in small portions. You will learn when to stop eating and which foods fill you up the most. I enjoy that I can go to parties and have a little food and later on a small piece of cake. Its such small portions that even then you can loose weight because its nothing compared to how much you can eat before surgery. As the months go by everything will become second nature and you will learn to adapt to the new portions and still feel normal. This surgery is great and the rewards that come with it. Such as getting to shop for new clothes.:)

So if you don't mind me asking how much have you lost in four months?

I have lost 46.5 pounds in 4 months, 77% of my excess weight. Still losing about a pound a week.

Wow - you're doing really well! Even though you were a low BMI to start with you still seem to losing the weight at a fairly good pace! I hope I can have that kind of success!

How are you doing?

I can't find the forum page for august...I'm feeling ok. It was super easy the first day because I was using my pain meds. These last two days have been pretty bad.

I'm sorry I hope you feel better soon. We just need to keep telling ourselves it's gonna get better. I hope we both look back and say this was so worth it:) I just can't wait until we can eat mash potatoes and refried mashed Beans, that's sounds sooooooo good.

No complications - my surgery went great and my recovery has had its ups and downs. It is hard to make the transition mentally to the small amount of food you can eat. I still can only eat about 5 bites of dense Protein. bread and sweets make me feel bad. I crave chicken :-) I eat a lot of cheese. I never drink while I eat. I only drink Water, tea, and an occasional iced latte.

My problem has always been Water. I don't even come close to what I am supposed to drink. I don't take my Vitamins religiously. I never could get one Protein Drink down, but I eat a lot of Protein in my regular diet. I don't exercise more than once or twice a week. However, I notice that all exercise is so much easier with the weight gone.

Its an interesting journey, but I am really happy I did it.

I'm happy for you, I wished I was at that stage now. I'm hoping I will feel better soon. Did you wake yourself up to drink your liquid? Im having a hard time getting the liquids down. 

HELLO Topic starter,

I had a bmi 33, and I had my surgery on July 12, and it was approved by my insurance blue cross blue shield.

Sheri

My preop diet doesn't seem too awfully stringent. What was yours like? Could it be the lower BMI?

I didn't have a pre-op diet. My BMI was 31. I heard the main reason why they do the pre-op diet is to shrink the fatty liver before surgery. I'm sure the higher your BMI is the more they worry about the liver.

That must be the reason he didn't put me on one. My BMI is 34. My surgery is 2 weeks from today. How are you feeling?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
