1 day post op... is this normal?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery yesterday and after a sucessful dye test... I was given the go ahead to start with some Clear liquids.

However, I'm having trouble swallowing anyhing without it being uncomfortable... even Water. Also, there are several weird groany sounds escaping from my throat with every sip I take of Water or broth. Was it like that anyone else? Will it get better?

Yes, completely normal. It seemed like a long time before I could swallow comfortably. As for the gurgly sounds, that is normal as well. Your tummy is angry at you right now and is letting you know!smile.gif You have a lot of swelling and it will continue to make that sound for a while. As a matter of fact, there are some veterans here who still hear it now and again.

Yes, this is normal. I just had surgery on 7,18 and am having the same thing. My doctor prescribed me meds for esophagal spasms and it has really been halping. With time, I see it going away for good. Be patient, and dont get frustrated because I did.

As the others said, this is normal. Try different temperatures of liquid - that may help. Personally, ice cold plain Water is what worked best for me - but I'm unusual in that. Many report that warm or room temperature is better for them.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
