Those with over 100 pounds lost - did you lose your bat wings??

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I've got a total of about 150 to lose and I'm about 1/3 the way (yay!). I've been doing some resistance training and have yet to really notice a difference in my arms or bat wings rather....if anything they've started winging more than before. Any encouraging words from 100+ pound losers?Other than surgery?

150 pounds down and they have stayed pretty much where they are, if I lose any more - and I should lose another 35 pounds or so at least - I suspect they will get bigger. I am very fortunate as they are hardly noticeable, but they ARE there and will probably NEVER go away unless I work out so much that I bulk up like Ahnold and get huge 'ceps to fill the space the fat once took. :D

My mom has the band and has lost about 45 lbs - her 'bat wings' are awful! My dad already said she could have plastic surgery for them eventually. I hope I'm young enough that my skin is elastic enough to bounce back OK.

I have lost 82....and at around 50 pounds it started bothering me. I have been working my arms tons... every other day. I work out at the YMCA and do all of the arm machines (there are 7 or 8), plus a trainer their picked out three other cable arm exercises. I have also been doing Zumba/Kick/Boxing/TurboKick 3-4 days a week which works the arms as well. There has been a noticeable difference....and at this point the only part that I am worried about is a small back section closest to my armpit. Although everything else on the underside jiggles when I shake my arm, it seems as though as I continue to lose and lift, it won't be so bad. But that small spot....I don't know! Hope this helps!

I've lost 70 and I have to admit my arms looks worse from behind. However, I am focused on running right now and haven't done a lot of toning exercises on my arms. They say it takes at least a year for the skin to play catch up so it will be a while before we can make a definitive call on whether they'll shrink up. I'm relatively young at 31 and really hoping that helps me! :)

My arms looked terrible and I was really self concious of them. Still am, but I started to do arm exercises with 3lb weights and have noticed a difference already. I do it about 4 days a week.

Hmmm, well, here's hoping being on the younger side and exercise will help out. I'm not looking for perfection, just don't want to look like a deflated balloon, lol.

I lost 60lb and I I have 60 to go and I hate my arms. I really don't want another surgery, so hopefully my age will help me to get my skin to snap back( I'm 25).

I have lost 124 pounds so far, with about 20 more to lose. My arms have shrunk a bit. I am no longer embarassed to wear short sleeves or even sleeveless tops. I can see a bit of wrinkly skin near the armpit. I am sure that they will get a little worse with the more weight I lose. I think that doing arm weights really help.

I lost 94 lbs and did not lose my 'batwings' AKA angel wings! It's the only thing that bothers me, but I deal with it. I do not and probably will never wear anything sleeveless. On an brighter side, my arms are MUCH smaller, so that is good. I'm 51 and am sure that accounts for less than perfect biceps! :) Good luck!!

I've lost 131 pounds and I hate hate hate my arm even more now than I did before. I've always had issues with my arms but recently people have made comments to make me feel more self conscious about them :( . I've been using my weights since about 4 weeks after surgery and I haven't seen much of a difference. I just keep telling myself I would rather have "bat wings" than to weigh 370 pounds.

Has anyone used the compression sleeves for their arms during exercise? Dose this make any difference? I hate my arms now ( pre-op) and know they will not be any better later, surgery aready planned for the future!

I am only 5 weeks post op, 34 pounds down and can already tell that i am going to have to have the surgery to remove the skin. BUT I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO IT! So in this losing phase...THANK GOD IT IS DURING THE WINTER! SO maybe next year I can have it all chopped off! I had my boobs chopped off in 99 and that was the best thing ever! I could care less about scars. I am WAY MORE WORRIED about my thighs which were already pretty gross. NOW I am going to have to get those cut off too :) It is ok. I am excited for all of that. As long as they don't cut through the muscle I would think those surgeries...for most people...would be easier to recover from.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
