Is there anything wrong with just drinking shakes?

Recommended Posts

I am 25 days post op and I'm just not that hungry. When I do eat, I get horrible indigestion in my throat. I haven't lost hardly any weight in the past 10 days either. Someone told me that it's b/c I am just not getting in my Protein, calories etc. I do fine if I just drink the shakes. I thought that for awhile I might just do shakes. But someone told me that it's bad b/c your stomach needs to get used to having real food in it eventually. I understand that but for now if shakes work for me then why not? Is it that big of a deal? other people go on liquid diets. Any ideas?

I agree with previous post, your body isnt getting enough nutrients so unti you start eating even if its a few bites of refried Beans or scramble eggs your body will hold onto the fat supply....just take baby steps!

When you first start out you will have different taste bud you need to get in at least 60 grams of Protein. Try cheese string, carbmaster yougurt, I know everything tastes different but you need to start getting your nutriention in. Drinking Protein Shakes are good right now but you need to start eating what ever you can eat. Take baby steps and add just one thing a week and start reducing the number of protein shakes you take in. In therory as long as you are taking your Vitamins, and calicum citrate the only thing you need to survive is protein. When I first started out I ate apple sauce pintos and cheese from taco bell and protein shakes. I still drink protein shakes every once in a while because I just dont have time to cook all the time.

My surgeon wants his patients off Protein shakes asap preferably by the time his patients are 5-7 weeks out, he wants food to be the main source of nutrients and Protein, but if you need them, use them. Our bodies just doesn't assimilate the nutrients and protein in shakes properly for life. They're used for Meal Replacements, and recovery protein for body builders and for the healing period. If you're not on a PPI, I would recommend getting on one and talk to your surgeon, since your staple line is healing, and at some point, you're going to have to eat. Chronic reflux damages your esophagus and leads to many other problems. Ulcers aren't a huge concern for sleeve patients except when the overproduction is not managed properly, not to mention the swelling, and irritation to the stomach from too much acid.

I hope it gets better ! ! !

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
