Do Vegetables Make You Hungry?

Recommended Posts

I am starting week 7. I have been mostly eating 60 to 70 g of Protein per day , and maybe 2-3 servings of carbs a day in the form of whole grains and fruit. I'm in a stall right now but otherwise I'm doing fine. I have not been eating much vegetables. Well today I thought that should change so I made a tofu stir fry with onion, bell peppers, zucchini, and mushrooms for dinner. I probably ate close to 3/4 a cup. Three hours later I'm starving so I had another serving, at least 1/2 cup. It is about a half hour later and I'm still hungry!!! Is this my imagination? Is there anyone out there who eats a lot of veggies and do they satisfy your hunger? I'm sure with both servings I got at least 3 oz of protein, maybe 4...but what gives,? I've never felt so hungry before...its' a little scary. I think I'm gonna go to the fridge right now and eat a hunk of cheese! Maybe it's head hunger come back to haunt me!!!

I have not been sleeved yet BUT with my lapband- I can eat the crapola out of veggies for DAYS and NEVER feel full EVEN with broccolli that pre-band after 3 peices either gave me gas or filled me way up. I love salad and found this was 1 way to "cheat" my band by eating a huge salad~justifying of course lettuce is NOTHING, veggies- NOTHING the worst thing I did was the dressing and I learned to LOVE Vinegar and Oil- So is it good? probably not but it is better than a cheeseburger or something like that in my mind.

Now with the sleeve- I would think that veggies are a "filler" for Fiber purposes only- not too much for caloric or Protein intake at all- In every other "diet" veggies are normally unlimited so I am going to ask my nutritionist in 2 weeks when I see her. I am all about justification- If I can get down 4 oz of veggies and be hungry again in an hour in my mind that is better than a small burger and not being hungry for 4.. does this make any sense??

Yes, I totally get it!

I've added chicken to my stir fry now along with the tofu so that my meal is a little more filling. Today I had my first full salad, with a scoop of tuna (and oil and vinegar dressing). I think I've found that I just need to have a more dense Protein with my veggies. And I think you're right, since veggies are so low cal, I shouldn't worry if I get hungry again...I can just have another serving and not feel guilty. That is one thing I love about the sleeve, I don't crave the bad foods and therefore don't eat them and now I can live guilt free! Thanks for your post, it's nice to know someone out there can relate. :)

Part of me feels that I have a partial advantage already having the band and dealing with restriction, less food etc... so I feel your pain :) But the more I read I should have WAAAAAAAAAAAAY more better results and restrictions with the sleeve- Plus I plan on ELIMINATING carbs (breads) from my diet all together- I slowly introduced them with my band and think I am paying for it now- but 1 thing I miss that I havent gotten back is SUSHI- I love sushi but I CANNOT eat rice!!! ARGH!! so i'm hoping with the sleeve I could eat a peice or 2...

The good thing about the sleeve is nothing is really "off limits". If you can tolerate it, you can have it. I personally have not had rice, but others do and are fine with it. It is just really carby and takes up a lot of room because it swells. They do make rice-less sushi, could you try that?

The only things that people say you shouldn't eat is celery and coconut because it doesn't digest well with our new tummy, but many still eat it.

Good luck!

Kelly :)

I had a bad experience with too much raw celery (no problem cooked). I severely limit my intake of raw celery.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
