I have NEVER lost much weight in the past doing high Protein low carb I always did my best counting calories but on here all I keep seeing is carb, carb, carb. I'm wondering if anyone else is doing calories instead.

Funny thing - I have been so very very careful to watch my carbs and had a stall for about a week or so. Sat. I bought some Club crackers and some spinach dip. I ate four crackers on Sat. and four on Sunday with Spinach dip. I thought I had really messed up. This a.m. I weighed and I had lost 4 lbs since Sat. a.m. Evidently, my body needed those carbs to get back on track. I wish I would have known that a week ago. :P

That is funny you say that too!!

I stalled big time when I was doing the low carb thing. I upped my calories and carbs and what do you know?? I started losing again. I now stay about 700-850 a day and DON'T low carb. I mean I really don't eat bread, Pasta or rice EVER, but I eat veggies and fruit and those have lots of carbs in them. I find that I lose just fine most weeks (with exception of TOM), but when I don't have many carbs, I stall!!

Today, for my carbs, I had a banana 23 carbs and a Pure Protein bar 24 carbs, my calcioum chews have 6 carbs in them for 2, so for today so far I have had 53 carbs and I have not had dinner yet. Probably won't have many more cuz I will just have chicken breast and that doesn't have any carbs in it!

I don't do low carb, either. I've had success in the past with Atkins, South Beach, etc. but with the restricted calories of the sleeve, low carb just wasn't doing it. Once I get closer to goal I anticipate having to watch carbs more closely to get the scale moving but for now, my daily intake is 100 grams or less.

Consider yourself very lucky! Many of us are very carb sensitive- I followed a 1000 calorie diet for three months last year and lost NINE pounds total. I just do better low carb. To be able to do well just counting calories- well, your sleeve will do that with you very effectively! You should have great results.

Kelly- I just found out that one of the people I have emulated on this journey, Juliarh , does not include fruits and veggies in her carb counting- that sounds like an ideal approach- and lo and behold that is what my RV triplet Kelly is doing instinctively!

By the way- doesn't it just BITE that some of our Vitamins have carbs? My Calcium chews have TWELVE in three of them, and my gummie Vitamins have SIX in two so that is 18 right there. Sigh.

Meggie, I do count ALL my carbs. Veggies, fruits Vitamins all of them. I use myfitnesspal and it calculates them for me.

I was just saying that I eat GOOD CARBS mostly beacuase I DO NOT eat bread, Pasta, rice, etc. I rarely have room for veggies and fruit because I DO follow the Protein first rule and can't eat past that!

I sometimes have a banana for a snack and those burgers have LOTS of carbs. My Iron and calcium chews have carbs in them too! BUMMER.

I am just not fixated on the carb counting like most. I find that if I low carb, I don't lose. I usually get between 55-80 g a day. Most days and sometimes a little less.

Right now, I count everything - total calories, and grams of Protein, carbs (all of them) and fat. I have lost 73 pounds since I started the pre-surgery diet so I am going to stick with what I'm doing until my body puts me into a major stall. I have had a couple of small stalls, but it was related to being plugged up like a stopped-up drain. I am anemic and have been on a double dose of an Iron supplement, and eating red meat often. I will be glad when my iron level gets into the normal range.

Isn't it strange how our bodies are all so very different. In the past I have done Atkins and lost only 6 or 7 lbs in a month but if I do under 1000 calories a day I've lost up to 35 lbs I'm a month even using some of my calories for a sweet treat. So I guess this is the perfect tool for my weight loss. Good luck to all of us on our new lives. :)

I lose better when I count calories. Counting carbs never did me any good at all. Right now I don't count anything because I can barely eat anything. I do try to make Protein the bulk of my food (cottage cheese, greek yogurt, eggs), but I eat cream of wheat and mashed potatoes too. It doesn't seem to be negatively impacting my weight loss. I bought bananas last night to try when they ripen enough. I'm planning to avoid bread, Pasta, and tortillas for as long as possible simply because I've never had any self control with those foods. Same with Peanut Butter. Peanut butter is my kryptonite.

I do eat fruits and vegetables. The only time I have done extreme low carbing is when I was stalled at 200 pounds and I wanted to get to One-derland. I have lost pretty consistently. I am at a standstill now though and I am considering doing low carb for awhile. I am pretty sure the stall is from vacation. I ate what I wanted (in small amounts), but now I am always craving carbs. I forgot how controlling bread can be!!!

I just had to ask....how many of you out there eat the gummie vitamins and do you find those sit well with your sleeve? I think my chewable vitamins taste so gross and I need something different but didn't know if the gummies would be ok??

I use Gummy multis and they go down fine. I just wish they didn't have 3 carbs each!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
