Protein Bars anyone???

Recommended Posts

Does anyone use Protein Bars? I ate these before surgery and am wondering if they are acceptable in ya"ll opinion. I am getting the majority of my Protein from Protein Drinks as I just cannot eat enough actual food to get in enough. I was thinking that maybe the Think Thin bars in very small pieces could be mushed in my mouth enough to not cause a problem. I am sure I couldn't eat one in a single sitting but maybe thru the whole day...

Thanks,

You have to be careful with a lot of the Protein Bars because a lot of them are loaded with calories a shake mixed with milk will give you 30g pf Protein and 200 calories while the bars are easily twice that.

I carry a couple in my purse as backup. If there is nothing acceptable to eat, I'll go with one of those. But as the last poster said, by really careful of the ones you choose. They can be really high in carbs and caleries compared to the Protein it gives you.

You want to try to find one that has more Protein than carbs.

You didn't say what stage you are on.If you're still on soft foods, Protein Bars are not in that classification.

Protein Bars --- YES..... :P

I have one a day still and could not forsee that ever stoping! Some do have higher calories than you want, and if you count carbs, some are very hight. I stick with Atkins bars...from the Atkins diet plan. They are available everywhere, to big chain stores, big chain pharmacies, etc... On the outside of the box you can easily identify Protein, calories and carbs for each bar. They make a chocolate Chip Granola Bar that is great! I have trouble keeping my grandkids out of them! 17 g. Protein, 1 g sugar, 3 g Net Carbs and 200 Calories. They also have Chocalte Peanut Butter Bar that has 19 g protein, 1 g sugar, 2 Net Carbs and 240 Calories.... you just have to read labels good on any brand protein bars.

Good Luck!!

Thanks for this info. I travel for work at times and I typically do a Protein shake for Breakfast at home. But was thinking a Protein Bar would be a good substitute when I travel. These sound like they are pretty good in terms of protein and carbs.

I eat a couple Protein bars every day. I'm not sure what else I'd eat if I didn't have them... lol

I usually go to Sam's Club and stock up on a couple different types. The lady asked "how's business going" last time I was there with 4 huge boxes of different Protein bars. laugh.gif

I love my Think Thin Protein bars... they have been a lifesaver for me because I can't tolerate the liquid Protein shakes. I did what one of the posters above suggested, just went to the store and bought 1 of several different kinds until I found one I liked. I noticed that the Thin Thin are gluten free with 0 grams sugar--the calorie count is around 200 per bar (some a little more, some a little less), but there's 20 grams of Protein in there! I usually eat one over the course of a day (can't eat it all at once--too big!), and I like the creamy Peanut Butter flavor the best--tastes like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, which I never really liked before surgery but now I like that flavor in the Protein Bar.

I carry one in my purse as an emergency stash, and that trick has come in VERY handy on a couple of occasions already (at the movie, during a long meeting that went through lunch and there was no sleeve-friendly food, etc.).

Think Thin makes their bars in 2 sizes, too--the full size and one they call "Bites," which are just the right size for me to eat at one sitting. I like the white chocolate raspberry and am going to get a few more flavors as I find them to try.

Cheers!

Meg

Never mind... I just checked them online and they are both LOADED with carbs! Too many carbs vs Protein ratio for me. So, never mind.... but thanks!

I use the south beach bars and keep them around for emergency situations. I also keep a couple Cliff bars in my desk in the event I forget or don't have time to eat Breakfast.

I use the myoplex lite. I don't like the taste of most others, 190 cal., 15 g Protein, 28 g carb ( 4 g Fiber, 15 g sugar). I also liked the costco bars, but the alcohol sugars gave me a low blood sugar rebound affect. Sweating, shaky, nauseous, light-headed.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
