How long did your pain last after surgerY?

Recommended Posts

Majority of my pain was in my esophagus every time I tried to swallow my fluids. The incisions to me really werent that bad, but at that time I'd already had 3 other abdominal sugeries and the WLS were two of the lessers by far!!

The incisions only hurt for a few days, unles I tried to sleep on my stomach. That hurt for 2 weeks tops. The esophagus pain lasted for at least 6 weeks.

HTH

My pain went away within the first week. I dont consider it to have been that bad as far as pain goes.

Now take that with a grain of salt cause my BFF tells me that I have a higher tolerance for pain. I can sort of agree with her, as I had my son with no medication what so ever.

I am not one for taking medication. I don't like it and I dont ever want to rely on it. Just remember to walk as much as possible, that will help beyond belief. And take things slow so you can fully recover.

I didn't feel much pain at all. The first week felt more like soreness in the stomach area but after that first week the sore feeling almost completely went away. Also, I didn't need to take any pain medication after leaving the hospital because the pain was about a 4 and I only felt the discomfort when I moved around. If I was laying still I didn't feel much at all.

Well, I remember my pain or uncomfortableness lasting for about 4 weeks after surgery but one day it was just gone without me even realizing it.

I just had my surgery last Wed. June 1st. Sunday was the last that I took any of the Loratab pain meds. I have not needed it. So far I haven't felt a "restriction" either as other people have mentioned. However, I am strictly abiding by the rules that they gave us and not bending any or trying to "test" the pouch. I am getting the required Protein Drinks and Water in even. I feel amazing. I never even stayed in bed after I came home from the hospital. I did take a short afternoon nap for the first 3 days but haven't even needed a nap since then. I have gotten so much done this week I can't believe it. I couldn't be happier with my decision to do this.

I had pain right after surgery, but by the next morning, I was not in pain, just uncomfortable from having IV, Drain bag, etc. Of course, I was on pain meds too (Toradol). However, I stopped taking them by the 4th day and I felt fine.

I only had pain on one incision site and it lasted two months, drove me batty. Now it only bothers me if I have overdone it. Now I still deal with pain at the top of my sleeve but I still have swelling from a small hole I had up there and had a few other complications. The pain comes and goes daily but its rare to have that kind of issue.

I only had soreness in the abdominal muscles (like I'd done a thousand situps), and some mildly sharper pain at the big incision when moving from lying to sitting (like maybe 4-5/10, but only for a second or two), and it was all gone by about day 4.

I was off pain meds on day 4 with 6 incisions. There really was no pain for me after the first day. But I totally confused gas for pain for several days. My 'gas' feels like someone squeezing your heart and slowly releasing, very steady like contractions. But pain from the surgery, it was a cake walk.

I had my surgery on Monday (6/6) and I don't have much incision pain, but I still have some discomfort when I sip, it's very mild, but it's like I can feel the Water running through the pouch and then it's gone. Smaller sips = less discomfort, but the feeling is still there. Seems less today than yesterday, I assume it will probably go away soon. Also, warm foods like broth don't do that to me.

I didn't really have pain from the surgery except for GAS!! That pain was HORRIBLE!! I did not even take pain meds after I left the hospital. I did experience some abdomial soreness for about 2 weeks, but it was more like I did an extreme workout and my abs were really sore! No big deal.

I sneezed one day and pulled a stitch and that hurt for a few days, but really no pain to speak of.

Kelly :)

I just had my surgery this past Monday June 20th and I am still pretty sore at a couple of incision sites. The gas wasn't really a problem for me yet - I'm hoping it stays that way. I can't wait until I can sleep on my tummy again. My drain comes out next Thursday. I can't wait!!!!

i had a heck of a time day 2 and had to stay and extra day in the hospital. I had a coughing episode that caused a popping sensation around the diaphram. Looking back I truly believe that is because they failed to get me out of bed before day 2 and it was a gas build up. Anyway the next day I felt like someone socked the hell out of my diaphragm. I had to go back on pain shots from the attack to the next day. At home I used pain meds at night to sleep as my drain was causing a bent up feeling. Once that was gone I was fine and moving on. The incision pain lasted about 3 weeks, but was more of an annoyance than pain.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
