Officially the slowest loser, but a loser!

I have now, just today lost 20 lbs total. I did a perfect two week pre- op, three drinks only, I am three weeks post- op, survived the three week stall, and Lost 20 lbs forever. Now,I am hoping the next 60 goes a little faster, but I just want it gone. So, for all you out there that have lost more, be thankful that you are not the official slowest loser. 20 lbs in 5 weeks is better than nothing or gaining.

I was about on the same pace. Started a stall about 2 weeks out that lasted forever..or so it seemed. I think I was about 25 or 30 pounds at 5 weeks, but weeks 6 and 7 have been really good. It will come (or go as the case may be) so don't stress out about it. Like you said you're LOSING so that's what I have to remind myself of too at times. I've accepted that I may be a slow loser and that is okay because I know that once it's gone it's not coming back!

The fact that you are losing is all that is important. It isn't a race and congrats on what you have done so far. It will come in time. rolleyes.gif

Your right!!!!! I am losing and learning about my new lifestyle. I guess I was only racing my hopes.

Question for you, and I am not an expert because I just had my sleeve done last week...but are you eating enough calories? I know one thing my doctor/nut said to me was that if the loss slows I should up my calories with Proteins and good fats and that should speed up the weight loss, he was also sleeved a few years ago so he know from experience. Just a thought. As you said, any loss is good, it's 20 pounds lost forever! Congrats!

I think you're fine. My weight hit a huge stall around 3 weeks and not until I ate more and drank more did it budge again. I think it's not good to pay that much attention to the really speedy losers because it is a downer to compare if your body is a bit slower. I'm thinking we all will lose the weight in time if we just do what we're told to do! Good luck to you----and congrats on 20. I'm 7 weeks out and have lost about 24.

Question for you, and I am not an expert because I just had my sleeve done last week...but are you eating enough calories? I have tried to increase carbs to under 30, fat 15, and Protein 90 . I am only on mushy for 1 more week. I have heard the same about increasing cals, but just afraid I guess. Thanks , I will try one more shake today and see if that helps.

So, you've lost 25% of your excess bodyweight in 5 weeks and that's considered slow? I think that's pretty phenomenal. Just because someone loses more pounds than you in the same amount of time doesn't mean they lost the excess weight any faster. It's about percentages at the end of the day. I went back and looked at my first 5-6 weeks loss rate, and I had about 35 more pounds to lose than you did, and guess what in those 5-6 weeks, I had lost 30% of my excess weight, so I don't consider you a slow loser or the slowest loser by any means. We didn't get fat overnight, getting skinny and healthy takes time too ! ! !

I did great pre-op (35 lbs in about 2 months) but since surgery I've been pretty slow: I'm down 19 lbs in almost 6 weeks. So you're not the slowest. But my math says I'm averaging over 3 lbs a week. You're at 4 lbs a week!

I know it will slow down some more as I get closer to goal but we'll get there. I've never been able to lose weight without feeling deprived before. My sleeve is making me feel like this time I'll actually keep it off.

Hang in there. You'll make it!

ok. I feel foolish. Thanks for the reality check. No more poor me' s. I really am happy about the 20 lbs, I just am on this site so much, I feel like maybe I am doing it wrong. But it is what it is. Thanks......and tell sprout hi

Yeah, I guess I'm a slow loser too! I've lost 11 lbs since surgery, and none of that has been in the last three days. MY scale HAS NOT MOVED IN 3 DAYS. But I feel so fortunate to have lost what I have and know that it will come off one way or the other. In the past I would diet like crazy for about a week, lose 1 or 2 pounds if I was lucky and then give up. This is the most weight that I have lost in a long time without feeling like I am starving. We will get there! As my husband says: How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

I have complained enough about it but I am on the same path you are! I wouldn't wish this on anyone BUT in finding the bright side:

1) I went ahead and bought a new pair of walking shorts and capris (we're talking Kmart here so no big $ invested) because I know that I won't be out of them in 10 days like some people. And I am a thrift store shopper by nature so this was a big splurge as an atta girl for doing what I needed to do. I also bought 3 new tshirts from CJ Banks. Again, on sale, but they are ELBOW LENGTH!!! and with my flappy arms just what I needed.

2) As you said, it won't come back. I know some folks have rebound weight gain but this first 20 are gone forever.

3) Here's my biggie. I did this on the DL. I AM SO GRATEFUL for that decision. I knew I would be a slow looser. I was only eating about 2k calories a day when I was "pigging out" so I knew. When I did Weight Watches I had to undercut my allowed points by about 1/3 to lose the 1 pound a week once I'd gotten past that first 2 or 3 weeks. That's the main reason I kept this private. I will admit that in 2001-2002 I basically went on a long term fast and lost and lost fast so this is going a bit slower than even I expected. But still, it's going. And it will eventually be gone. And I am so glad I don't have to be explaining to people why I'm not losing weight. The one friend I told asked me last weekend when I was going to have my surgery. :(Yep. After 2 week pre-diet liquid fast and over 1 month post op, she wondered when I was going to finally get it done! And she's been in Florida for 3 months and not seen me everyday so it's pretty obvious it's not showing yet!

Hang in there. We'll get there too. We're just walking instead of running. :D

I am a slow loser also. this was verified by my doctor. He told me to increase my calorie intake by 150-200 calories a day. It didn't seem to be working but the scale is beginning to move again. As long as it is going down, no matter how slow, I am happy.

      Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
      Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
      A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.

      I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
      Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

      Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
