What are mushies, and how do they differ from full liquids?

Recommended Posts

My NUT has allowed soft scrambled eggs and pureed Soups during the full liquid phase. I was sleeved 4/18. Next week, I move to "mushies". The week after I have a multi-day business trip which will involve restaurants and a fundraiser. Ideas on how to handle the transition and the trip?

Hey! As you know, we were sleeved the same day... my plan allowed for mushies starting last week, although I have been really SLOW to incorporate them, as my sleeve doesn't seem to like many of them yet.

I've been out to eat on 2 occasions since being sleeved. Soup is your friend. When you can have mushies, you can order a broth-based Soup and eat the broth plus the softened veggies or tiny pieces of chicken in the soup--chew thoroughly and keep an eye on how much you're eating. On both occasions out, I ordered a cup of soup for my entree and was able to enjoy the company without feeling strange, plus I had plenty of soup to go home for more meals later.

Friendly foods might include yogurt (if your hotel room has a fridge; if not, fill your ice bucket and pop it in there!). If you're like me, one container of yogurt will last for several "meals," and you can just replace the ice to keep it cold. You can take a screw-top shaker bottle and already-measured scoops of Protein powder, then add milk or Water and ice at the Breakfast bar at your hotel---shake, shake, shake, and you have Breakfast. You can sit with others and enjoy your shake and visit, and I bet you nobody says a thing about it--I sat in the middle of a group of folks at work who were having coffee, etc., and as I drank my shake, nobody said boo. Other restaurant ideas: mashed potatoes (not fabulous for carbs, but how much of them are you really eating?), tuna salad if you can tolerate it (ask for a scoop of it by itself). At breakfast, scrambled egg or omelet (nobody will care how much you eat) or oatmeal or cream of wheat.

A multi-day trip really does pose a challenge this early, I think. But the key is going to be planning ahead and having your own supplies, like the shaker bottle and Protein Powder. You're going to do great!!

I would describe the difference between full liquids and mushies by thinking full liquids would fit through a straw, and mushies would require a spoon or fork. Odd that you were allowed eggs on full liquids since I would call that a mushie. Those are all great food ideas for traveling from Meg. I lived on mashed potatoes, refried Beans, scrambled eggs, tuna, egg salad, thick Soups, etc.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
