Pressed my luck and got hit with a whammy!

Recommended Posts

If you've gotten to at least the puree stage than most likely you know the feeling of one bite too many. Well, today, I discovered the 2 bites too many scenario. Holy crapola!!

I was still reeling from the stress of riding out the tornadoes yesterday and was watching the news all day and was stressed out from that. I decided to fix some chicken, just 2 little tenders. Started eating and they were just sooooo yummy, I knew I was overdoing it. Just rest assured, if you overdo it, YOU WILL PAY! I have learned my lesson though, I don't want anymore whammies.....ever!

Anybody care to share their whammy story?

I think it is a right of passage all of us go through to understand the capacity of our stomachs. It is the worst feeling that makes us reassess how we eat. I now measure my food and eat to satiaty and not full. Just to avoid that horrible feeling.

Just happened to me for the first time the other night (with chicken too) and it sucked!! I am 5 months out and have done so good thus far but I guess I got complacent.

Not sure what's worse, the waterfall of saliva gushing down your throat, the feeling you're going to puke or my heart pounding so hard I feel like I'm going to pass out. I wish I could say its only happened once but I've over done it three times and nearly so a few more times. The difference between FULL and OMG IT HURTS! is like you say, about 2 bites.

I had my first experience today. I'm 19 days post op and on mushies. I'm not sure what happened.....its almost like I ingested air instead of food!! I had one tiny bite of grits....basically licked the spoon after stirring, 2 tiny bites of soft scrambled eggs.........and I'm running for the bathroom!!!! After the 3 small bites came out the rest was just nasty burping and a ton of slimy air bubbles!!!! Has this happened to anyone else? I know it wasn't an "overeat" situation......but maybe similar?

Oh man, I hated feeling as bad as I did. But, I will tell you that I've only had that ONE incident so I'm thankful for that experience.

But, I went out with a friend and had some chicken salad. Then, came home and I was so thirsty that I took a sip of Water. Even though I probably had too much chicken salad... and I wasn't in that 30 minute after window to drink anyway. And, that drink almost destroyed me. No lie when the first little bit went down I could just FEEL that I didn't have anymore room in my stomach and almost immediately felt it coming back up :(

Nothing like vomitting Water :(

I have felt uncomfortably full a few times, but I have never had any pain or vomiting.

It might have been the scrambled eggs. Lots of folks here have said they did not sit well with them either. The one and only time I have vomited was when I ate scrambled eggs. I won't be trying again for a while. I can eat boiled eggs just fine. Strangehuh.gif

I've eaten scrambled eggs more than 6 times this week...never had this problem. I do notice that sometimes I can take 2 bites of anything and feel like I swallowed a bunch of air and have to burp a lot before I can continue eating.

Oh yes, fortunately I've only gone through this one time. It will never happen again as long as I'm able to help it. It does sneak up on you quick... so once you get that "Uh Oh, I think I'm full" you better stop. It is so ingrained our brains to keep going, if anyone knows this it's me. Why I needed the sleeve... it will smack you into next Tuesday if you don't watch it. Quite literally it is BY FAR the worst feeling of nausea you can ever imagine... lots of slimy saliva... retching... feeling of wanting to pass out (faint)... heart beating out of your throat...

IT'S JUST AWFUL!!!! So, this is what it takes for me to stay in a nice small portion? Gah! Oh well, I'm smaller than I have been since being a teeny bopper so I'll take it any day!

Could have been a texture thing with the grits. Maybe put them off for a little while and try them again in a few weeks?

I'm hoping somebody can keep from the experience - no fun, the too full or vomiting, neither is fun.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
