I'm wondering what the VSG world thinks of the HCG diet? The principle of it is a 500 calorie specific diet that feeds off your fat so one is not hungry. About a year after one friend's sleeve surgery, she did the HCG to "reset" her weight and dropped 20lbs. In the future, I am considering doing it myself as my metabolism is so screwed up. I've also had several friends that lost 40+lbs and have kept it off. SO WHAT DO YA ALL THINK????

I did it last summer before the sleeve and lost 35lbs the first month. Then of course gained it back. Not saying it doesn't work for some but I don't intend to do drastic diets again. That is why I had the sleeve done. If you choose to do it I would recommend you get the drops(synthetic form) versus the real HCG which is injections. I was so moody on the injections I couldn't continue. Plus if I got hungry during the day there was nothing I could do. With the drops I could take more drops and the hunger went away.

I also have done it and lost about 25 pounds, with random cheating. Cheating is a HUGE no-no with those injections. I think after losing most of your wait and stalling, it's a great idea. It helps with problem areas and with skin elasticity. If you do, be careful with what and where you order. The injections are the original way of doing it and probably the safest. Also, some sites will scam you and not give you real HCG or even give you HCG that was taken from someone with AIDS or another disease. There are doctors around who prescibe it so look for them first. If that is not an option order it from a doctor online.

If you have any questions on how it works, the diet, or anything feel free to ask. I have done extreme research over it and have given speeches on the topic. If I can help, I'd be happy to. [:

I think it's a low-cal, low-carb diet.

I will say this about HCG. It was a miracle in the way it took the fat off. It knew exactly where I needed to lose and where I didn't. For example I have fat legs. I lost in the legs and not in the boobs. My calves went down several inches.

HCG is the hormone you produce when you are pregnant. The theory behind it is if you don't eat when you are pregnant the body breaks down fat to feed the fetus. So you take the HCG then go on a 500 calory diet which for about 3 days you feel like your starving to death and then it's ok. You drop a lot of weight but you can only do it for 15-45 days and then you have to take a break for as long as you were on it. Otherwise your body catches on. look online you will find a lot of information on it.

Human chorionic gonadotropin

It is a relatively new diet concept. Below is a Wiki article on it, some scary stuff, especially tumor production and forced fertility production. To each his own but I remember all the other "fad" drugs that came out in the past that are now banned - Phen-Phen comes to mind. I'll wait for the fallout, thank you.

My question too Coops... I've never heard of HCG. What exactly is it????

HCG is Human Chorionic Gonadtrophin. Like said above it is a hormone produced while pregnant. There are 3 types of fat in your body. Structual Fat, which is like a packing material for your organs. Natural Reserve Fat, which is where our body draws out nutrients as needed. Lastly there is Abnormal Fat. Which we all know what that is. When losing weight we lose the first two, which are the fats we need. Abnormal is always the last resort. With the HCG, the body will attack the Abnormal Fat.

You're also not living just on 500 calories. I forgot the amount but I believe its anywhere from 1000 to 4000 calories being released in your body. Which is why the diet is low calorie. Also, the the food that is allowed on the diet is there for a reason. The HCG will react with the food to attack the fat. Even if you stay under 500 calories eating the wrong food, you won't lose weight.

Thanks everybody for your opinions! I did the HCG diet for 8 days -before VSG- and I had carb cravings from hell. One Melba toast turned into the whole box on several occasions. I feel that now (after VSG) it will work wonders for me as I won't get as hungry. I'm willing to try it down the road if I seem to be at a stall. Thanks again!

ah, why didn't I think of this!!! I did this HCG diet in the summer, lost weight but gained it back. But now that I can hardly eat, well it would be perfect to start on this diet again, I won't even be able to eat the wrong things because of my VSG... good thinking, I do have 1/2 a bottle left!

Where did you get your bottle?

The thought of putting an "unnatural" hormone in my body (I.e. One I'm not naturally producing) is enough to put me off - even if people do have success with it. I'm with Rootman on this.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
