Question for Women on/after Surgery Date

Recommended Posts

I have a strange and personal question to ask all the women that have had lapband....

My surgery is July 5th and being overweight... I have big boobs.

I am concerned because the hang over my stomach and I think that my incisions will get irritated. I really enjoy wearing support bras with underwire but i know that we can't wear the underwire for awhile after the surgery. I am most comfortable when wearing a bra.

I heard that we could wear sports bras but I don't find that they support me that much.

What should I do about keeping the girls off my tummy?

Hi,

When I had my surgery I went to Kohls and got a barely there tank...its just enough to hold you up and its very comfortable. You can find them in the bras and underwear section....as a matter of fact...I wore mine all the until 3 weeks after surgery...just my 2 cents

I have extremely large breasts too. I know when I went in for my pre-op, my doctor noticed I was wearing an underwire and said I would not be able to wear them for a while and suggested I get some sports bras. Like you, being so large, I don't like to just let the girls hang free, and they need to be supported. I went to www.roamans.com and they had some pretty nice sports bras in larger sizes. I ordered them and was very happy with them. They also hook in the front, which is more comfortable than a back hook right after surgery. The prices were reasonable too. While I did not get the support of an underwire, I was comfortable wearing them and didn't feel there was a noticeable difference between the way I looked in them versus the underwire.

I hear what you're saying and can relate. I simply pulled the underwire out of my current bra and put it on the morning after surgery... no pain at all. Give that a try and see if it works for you.

I was worried about the same thing. But I wore my normal underwire bra from the hospital. Never had to buy a different bra and had no problems. The incision that I have under my bra was only about 1/8" or less and only needed a band aid.

Wait a minute, we can't wear underwire?? I hadn't heard that before. What's the reasoning?

I'm with BakoGal and Tracy, no one ever told me not to wear an underwire...I did...my closest scar (I just checked) is in the center and a full inch away from the bottom of my bra.

I also highly recommend Title 9

www.title9.com - they have a huge selection of sports bras for large sizes and they are TERRIFIC. Look under bras that have 3+barbells - that is the way they rate their bras (by barbells) and 3+ are for larger sized breasts. Good luck. PS I wear a size 38D and I found my incision was between and a little lower then my bra so i never had any trouble with it touching that incision - now waistbands have been another issue - lol

good luck!!!

i wore and took only front hook sports bras with me. i am a size 52-I and so they hang down pretty much no matter what--however even lifting them a little from that top incision helped. i wore my regular bra after 2 weeks (it is not a wired bra). all incisions were healed by then. i also wore a fabric bandaid over that particular incision and that sure helped with irritation and dampness. those kind of bandaids stay put comfortably. if you have to go to work, do not wear a knit type top, it may show you hanging more. try a woven type shirt---worked for me!!:biggrin1:

I don't think I wore a bra for weeks! I work the full length hold em in type excersise thing. It held the boobs in one place and also held the incisions so when when I got up and down they also stayed in one place....

Like some of the others, no one told me that I couldn't wear an underwire bra. I wore my underwire bra home from the hospital with no problems. As long as I was dressed, the underwire bra was on.

BTW, the day of surgery I was wearing a 42DD. I'm now in a 38D.

I was just banded on tuesday 20th. My top incisions are a good 3 inches away from where my bra band is. Right now the lower incisions are just above my waist area. I'm wondering when I lose to goal if those lower incisions (port site) are gonna be right on my waistband?!!

I left the OR w/o my bra on. I didn't care then. lol - was still under the influence of too much anesthesia and I was in charge of dressing myself. I was lucky I got my shirt and pull on capris on! lol!!!Went out the back door anyway. ONly people there were hubby and the nurses.

Terry

My right boob does rest one on my tiny incisions, but it has healed nicely. I wore my old nursing bras for a couple of weeks. Did I mention that I hate wearing bras period? I would never go out in public w/o one, but when I'm home, the puppies are hanging low.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
