Hey Sleevers,

I'm on day 6 of my liquid diet and I'm on only liquids. I'm to have Protein Meal Replacement drinks for all meals and Snacks. So, yes i've cheated but not the way you would think. I have had Jello and broth. In my broth i've added red chili flakes. I've tasted a few bites of my sons food after cooking for him, and I mean a tiny little bitty bite.

I had 2 very thin slices of low fat turkey sandwich meat today also... I just felt like I needed something not sweat. I'm not a sweat eater and all the drinks are making me cranky from all the sweat flavors.

I want a glass of wine really bad but since my surgery is Monday that is out of the question. I'm 209 and i'm struggling with WHY I'm having to do such a drastic diet one week pre-op. After hearing people who are heavier than me eating real food right up till surgery time has me really confused as to why i'm making myself sick of the same foods i'm going to need to eat for the next few weeks.

I would give anything for a Boca burger, a Lean Cuisine, Smart One..... anything that I could ad some salt tootongue.gif

Sorry.... just need to vent. Looking forward to Laxative Sunday... WooHooohmy.gif

Sorry that you are frustrated now--but you will be happy you lost pre-op. Every pound you lose now is one less you will have to lose after surgery, and this time, they won't come sneaking back! Maybe try some boullion for the salt cravings? I drank both beef and chicken because I was so sick of sweet fruity and chocolate drinks.< /p>

Thanks Foxbins.. But broth is not on my pre-op diet... that is what i've been cheating with. I make my own broth so I can control the sodium amounts.

thats whats frustrating.... I feel like i'm cheating but most people are giving broth as an option.

I will have to do a one week preop diet too. My surgeon said it was to shrink your liver. I have been on a fasting diet like the all Liquid Protein supplements, and the first three days are hell, but then the cravings and headaches go away. Think of it in a positive way, you will be over the cravings and headaches prior to surgery, so you wont have to deal with that in the first few days after surgery. :)

Anything the doctor is prescribing is for your health they want that liver small and out of the way so that there are no complications. yes it's tough and trust me months later I still don't want a Protein Shake, Jello, or broth but it was all so worth it... Stick with it and you'll be rewarded!!!

Thanks all.... Plannergirl. I did order some of the Unjury but it hasn't arrived yet. I hope I like it. My son and I are almost full blown vegetarians (him more than me, I eat fish). I can't stand the smell of chicken so I may not be able to handle it. I had my gall bladder out in May and all the hospital had was either beef or chicken broth and I just couldn't get it down. Now if they could just make a Protein drink that tastes like sushi....laugh.gif

I start my one week pre-diet, next week! I have to drink 4 to 6 Protein Shakes a day AND I get to eat 1 300 calorie meal a day. Anything I want as long as it isn't over 300 calories. When I heard that, I was a little bit more relieved! :) I am dreading what's to come, but looking towards the finish line!

My pre-op diet was 10 days and was very generous compared to what I read on here. I could have lean meats, cottage cheese, yogurt, Protein drinks, and unlimited cucumbers, radishes, cauliflower, and dill pickles. Still, I struggled, mainly because it hit me that there were so many things I may never be able to eat again. I would do great during the day, but at night I would finally just eat what I wanted. I posted on here asking what would happen and several told me they would open me up and close me back just as fast if they saw that my liver was not right. Five days before my surgery I chatted with a friend who was recently got a Lap-Band from the same doctor. She told me it would be okay, and to just finish the last 4 days strong. I did okay, but no where close to what I should have done the next two days, and then the last two days I did really good. My whole thought was...if I could do the pre-op diet, I wouldn't need the surgery in the first place. I was a bit nervous going in...and then when it was all said and done I asked my doctor to rate my liver one a scale of 1 to 10. He gave it a 10!

Do you best....

Stick with it, dont give in! I am starting day 4 of my 5 day pre op liquid diet, 3 Atkins shakes a day, broth, Jello, that's it, nothing else! I'm not gonna lie it sucks! With me its not so much hunger pains as it is in my head. Last Wednesday I gave up the nicotine patch, and on Thursday morning I gave up food for the liquid diet, so its kind of a double whammy for me.

I will say at least for me, that day 2 was the hardest, and most stressful so far.

2bslimkim--

Enjoy your posts. We are similar in size and your surgery is one day before mine I am 3/1 in St. Louis. It is interesting to see how different all the preop instructions are. Mine said I did not have to do liquid before OR a bowel prep. I opted to self impose both as I don't want anything lingering around in there for days.....sorry tmi.....I don't think the broth will hurt you. Keep in touch---cant wait until they give us our adult

beverages back----when they do let's have a virtual cocktail!! also the citrate of mag was not bad did it yesterday

Today started my day 6 of 2 weeks!!! I have to say that if I didn't get to have a smart one for dinner I would go NUTS! I get 3 shakes, a smart one and all the crystal light I can drink per day. I don't get jell-o, popsicles or brooth either.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
