Here is a really great site for vitamin/nutritional needs after bariatric surgery.

Most gummies do not have adequate amounts of Vitamin A, E, D, K much less amounts of B, B6, B complex, you also need a sublingual B12 if you aren't on that one. Most gummies do not contain any Iron.

This is a huge document, but it has amazing information in it.

Page 7 outlines what is needed. Since we do not malabsorb, it is recommended that we take a high quality, adult, good potency adult Vitamin. We need 100% of the recommended daily value just like band patients (AGB) in addition to the sublingual B12.

http://www.asmbs.org/Newsite07/resources/bgs_final.pdf

Page 8, last 2 paragraphs and beyond explain why even with a restrictive only procedure why we need a good quality mulit-vitamin.

thanx for responding Sherri...I guess I have known that I needed to change...

Tiffykins, GRACiAS... I am about to copy that and get busy reading. I always try and compare the Vitamins and see which one has more... but i was just taking more of the gummies... to supplement. I actually just started the bcomplex sublingual. i got it at Walmart. Does it matter where you get them? I'm hoping it is just as good as one i would get at GNC or such places.

I use the Gummyvites that you get at costco. My doctor said they work fine, plus they have 200% Vitamin D (I'm deficient). Plus, this week they're on sale at Costco for $7.99 a botttle for 200 instead of $9.99 a bottle.

As long as it's B12 sublingual, and you're taking around 200mg or 2000mcg a few times a week, you should be fine.

I personally use the brand at WalMart it's 2500mcg and only take it 3-4 times a week because my b12 levels were double the high normal levels at 18 months post-vsg.

The main issue with gummies is the lack of Iron. We just can not consume a lot of Iron rich food early out. I can eat more spinach and meat now than I could at 2-6 months out, but I am not willing to risk getting low in iron, and separate iron pills absolutely SUCK, and I refuse to let my regimen go so badly that I would need iron infusions.

GNC Solotron chewable with bioavailable iron is what I used for almost 2 years until I just recently switched over to Celebrate because between their multi and their Calcium citrate, I only need 4 Vitamins for an entire day. So, that's a huge bonus for me, and they all taste great in my opinion.

For my own experience, our doctor more advice to take natural supplements rather than Gummy Multivitamin. I don't know exactly why but if you will notice nowadays, health doctors prescribed their patients a natural supplement/multivitamin. If you have time, try to research on Google or Yahoo about the company "Maxalife". Maxalife is a nutrition, health and wellness company that provides world-class supplements.

Well funny you mention that because I brought them to my dietician today to show her which Vitamins i can take and which I cant, because I get deathly ill on the one-a-days but the gummys go down great ,,...Welllll she said the gummys do NOT have enough in them Soooo I ended up getting the powder Vitamin to put in the Water and that one was GReat. Hope this helps , maybe for someone who is not sleeved they can get away with it but we need more!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
